Power window stopped working? Seat won't move? Blower fan dead? Same diagnosis.

Any electric motor in your car quits, we test cheapest first:

1️⃣ Fuse
2️⃣ Switch
3️⃣ Wiring & grounds
4️⃣ Motor — last, not first

Most guesses start at 4. Testing starts at 1.

This week it was a switch. The motor it "needed" was fine.

Save this for the day something stops moving.

The easy call is "needs a seat motor." That's the expensive guess — and the wrong one more often than you'd think.

We put the circuit on a load tester before ordering a single part.
Motor checked out fine.
The switch failed under load.

Cold-start tick on a GM 5.3? Here are the three things it usually is — in the order we actually check them. 🔍

1. Oil. Wrong weight or long overdue will tick. Sometimes that's the entire repair.

2. Exhaust manifold bolt. When one snaps you get a tick that sounds like the bottom end is letting go. It isn't. It's a bolt.

3. Lifter. Which is backwards from how most people assume it and backwards from how a lot of shops quote it. These engines do eat lifters — but if we start there, a $90 oil change turns into a four-figure estimate and nobody ever finds out it was never the lifter.

Diagnose in cost order, not worst-case order. That's the whole argument behind test, don't guess.

Why we run a hub dyno instead of rollers. 🔧

On a roller dyno the car sits on drums and the tires do the talking. Put sticky tires and big torque on that setup and the tires start to slip. The number moves — and not because the engine changed.

A hub dyno takes the wheels off entirely. We bolt straight to the axle hubs. There is nothing left to slip, so what you see is what the driveline is actually making.

No tire variable. No estimates. No crank-math where somebody multiplies your wheel number by a guess and calls it horsepower.

Ours is a Mainline ProHub rated to 3,500 HP — the only Mainline Smart Dyno in the region. Available for rental to tuners, race teams, and builders who need real data.

The renovation is in the home stretch. 🏁 Garage door is out — making room for more workspace and a better shop layout. New furnace is reinstalled and the AC is running. In August. In Indiana. Test, Don't Guess — Case File 01 🔍

A truck comes in slipping and flaring between gears. Every symptom points one direction: the transmission is on its way out.

It was the throttle position sensor.

That's the whole reason we diagnose in cost order instead of worst-case order. When a shop starts at the most expensive possibility and works backward, a small part becomes a four-figure quote — and nobody ever finds out it was never the transmission.

We start cheap and work up. Sometimes that costs us a big ticket. It also means you only pay for what actually broke.

25+ years ASE Master Certified, right here in Frankfort. If somebody's told you it's the trans, get a second opinion before you commit to a rebuild.
