The trajectory of EV is undeniable.

Sales keep rising, battery prices keep falling, range keeps increasing, charging networks keep expanding, batteries are lasting longer, investment keeps growing and the grid keeps getting cleaner.

There will be bumps along the way, but zoom out and the direction is clear.

Electric is becoming the new normal.

EVs don’t just save on fuel and maintenance, they save lives too.

EVs don’t just save on fuel and maintenance, they save lives too.

The case for electric vehicles has usually rested on projections, so a 2026 study in Nature Health offered something more useful: measured data from 150 cities over more than a decade. Researchers used satellite air quality readings and machine learning to isolate the effect of China's EV transition, the largest in the world.

By 2025, more than half of new cars sold there were electric. They compared the real air over those cities against a modeled baseline in which combustion engines had stayed in charge.

Carbon monoxide came down by more than 30 percent, and fine particulate matter, the pollutant most closely tied to heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer, fell by nearly 24 percent. By the study's estimate, those cleaner skies had prevented roughly 262,000 premature deaths in China by 2023.

Solar costs have fallen dramatically over the past decade as photovoltaic manufacturing scaled worldwide.

In 2025, the world added an enormous amount of new solar capacity—making solar one of the fastest-growing sources of electricity generation on Earth.

The claim that solar is “cheaper than breathing air” is obviously a dramatic metaphor, but the underlying trend is real: solar has experienced one of the most significant cost declines in modern energy history.

Solar went from an expensive niche technology to one of the world's cheapest new power sources.
