Ford’s secretive Skunkworks EV team is finally stepping into the spotlight, and the specs are turning heads. Designed to compete with low-cost EVs from China and Tesla, this new platform code-named CE1 will underpin a range of affordable electric vehicles, starting with a mid-size pickup and a compact crossover.

What we know so far:
Target price: under $25,000
Range: up to 300 miles using LFP batteries
Built with a streamlined architecture for faster production and lower costs
No Level 3 autonomy—keeping things simple and affordable
First models expected to debut in 2026, with production at Ford’s retooled Louisville plant.

Four leading electric vertical takeoff and landing startups have gone public as the concept of future air taxis continues to gain traction worldwide. The four companies: Joby Aviation, Archer, Lilium and Vertical Aerospace anticipate producing thousands of eVTOL air taxis in 2027.
