Bosch ABS Pump Delete, Computer Mount, BRZ, FRS, GT86, Other

Often when youโ€™ve heavily modified your Subaru BRZ/ Toyota GT86/ Scion FRS, with track worthy coil-overs, sway bars, wings, splitters, and larger braking components, the anti-lock braking system will become very inconsistent. On our track cars we would notice increased โ€œICE Modeโ€ events, which feels like youโ€™ve lost your brake booster, resulting in an extremely hard brake pedal with extremely low deceleration. The other issue is that the โ€œBrake Force Distributionโ€ is too slow to react to an advanced driver who could get some front brake lock up before the ABS computer had forced more braking power to the rear brakes. When the ABS system goes into a โ€œFailsafeโ€ the car is nearly impossible to stop safely at track speeds. Does the naturally aspirated EJ25 vs turbo EJ25 have different rod lengths and piston deck heights? ๐Ÿค” The answer for the latest generation EJ253 SOHC VVT used in the 2010 Subaru models is no!

The myth is that all NA EJs have shorter rods and higher piston deck heights but I'm here to set the record straight. The EJ251 definitely has different specifications and I believe the EJ252 is the same but maybe someone can confirm that on the 252.

So if you have an EJ253 SOHC VVT and building a junkyard booster, then some dumpster STi rods and pistons are a direct swap ๐Ÿ‘. That junkyard be**er happens to be my 16 year old's 2010 Forester. Can't be paying those turbocharger insurance rates! ๐Ÿคฃ

As you can see, all rods are the exact same length but there are slight differences in the thickness of the forgings that would go unnoticed unless placed side by side. The RA comnecting rods are noticably thicker towards the piston pin. Both STi rods are slightly thicker overall but are also made of a stronger material.

From past testing the NA rods and even the 2.0 WRX rods would bend/break around 400 ft/lbs but the 2.5 STi rods could handle 500 ft/lbs with responsible tuning ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The new Element Tuning website is being built but the current site isdown temporarily. Since the last couple of WordPress updates the site had become impossible to secure from ads, bots, etc. The actual "store" was always secure but it's been decided that it's best we move to a better and more secure platform that isn't open source like WordPress. We'll upload a few of the most important pages over the next few days. The 15+ years of technical documents and race content will take a little longer but we'll get it all back up soon!
