Homer Roberts was the first African-American Car Dealer in the USA., A respected war veteran from World War I, Mr. Roberts was the first African-American Commissioned in the Signal Corps. After his time in the war, he moved back home to Kansas City to start his new business venture. On May 31st, 1919, he put his first ad in the newspaper listing seven used cars. He continued to place ads in the paper and by September 9th, 1919 he had sold 60 cars in less than 90 days. He opened the Roberts Company Automobile Brokers Showroom almost two years after his first ad. His company grew quickly and on Sunday, July 29th, 1923 was the formal opening of the new Roberts Company Motor Mart. Over 3000 people attended the event. By 1928, he had sold over $2 million worth of automobiles, mostly to Black drivers. With hopes of expanding his business, he relocated to Chicago in 1929. But the outbreak of World War II sent him back into military service. Now an Army major, Roberts headed up the Black interest division of the Pentagon’s public relations department. Traveling to Europe, Africa, and extensively across the U.S., he promoted the contributions of Black soldiers and communities to the war effort. In 1945, in recognition of his service to the armed forces, Roberts was awarded the Legion of Merit.

Homer Roberts was and is an inspiration to many and helped pave the way for black Americans to create and own their own business.

We all know St. Augustine is one of the most historical places in Florida. Have you ever seen The St. Augustine Foot Soldiers Monument? The monument bears the faces of men and women and honors those who protested peacefully during the Civil Rights movement in St. Augustine. Within the plaza, you can also walk in the footsteps of Reverand Andrew Young along the path he marched for civil rights in the 60’s.

Today we are sharing a little of Florida's Black History! We hope you enjoy learning something new and hearing about two women who were pillars of the Jacksonville community.
The Clara White Mission was founded in 1904, but it can be traced back to the 1880s in Jacksonville. Clara and her daughter, Eartha White began their mission right out of their home on Clay Street, by feeding hungry neighbors. Eartha became a nationally recognized humanitarian for her work molding a labor of love into a social agency. By 1932, the mission had outgrown their home. Eartha acquired the Globe Theatre Building and dedicated it to the memory of her mother, Clara. It is the oldest African American mission in the state of Florida. Today the Clara White Mission work to reduce homelessness and hunger in their communities. They help with their sustainable food programs, advocacy, housing, and job training.

We wanted to share a brief history lesson with you today in honor of Black History Month!
Since 1976, each president of the United States has designated the month of February as Black History Month. However, the origin of Black History Month can be traced even further back to 1915. An organization called ASALH was led by a Harvard-educated historian, Carter G. Woodson. They dedicated their time to researching the achievements of Black Americans and others of African descent. Their goal was to inspire the communities in the United States and education to schools with celebrations, activities, and lessons to teach Black history. In 1926, they sponsored a Negro History Week. They chose the second week of February to do so because of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass’ birthdays. In the 1960s the week transformed into a full month. It wasn’t until 1976 that it was signified as a national observance by President Gerald Ford.

Coggin BMW rocks 5 cars from yall want a good laugh?

Coggin comes through again!!! I was looking for a basic 3 series sedan, and inventory was low. Yousef came to the rescue and located several options available to him with in a certain radius. He also was able to locate the exact car that hadn't been processed into the system. We worked out a deal over the phone with him and his manager Dave and I took delivery within an hour or two. I would highly recommend anyone to give him a call if you looking for your next car.

Manny Miranda is the best!

The sales process was good. After that it went down hill. They offer a so called BMW Genius that cant make a simple appointment and another that never returns a phone call. GM does not reply to emails. Even though the sales person was great, I wish I purchased from Palm Beach

Improve their post sales. Once the sale is completed you're old news.

Yousef was very helpful in showing the cars you offer. Very knowledgeable about all of them. I will be back when I decide on the car I want to purchase. I also recommend a friend who is also in the process of buying a car to come see yousef!

Once again, an excellent experience at Coggin BMW Treasure Coast! Eric Jackola offered friendly, professional and courteous service! He also added a personal touch, ‘a thank you card’ was placed near the arm rest in the car! The lady, (don’t remember her name, sorry) at the front desk was so friendly and personable! Love this place!!!

Only Coggin BMW could make the air bag replacement event fun. As always the service and speed thereof was impeccable. I met two fellow Beamer friends from Okeechobee, and we had a nice chat with Richard Cuppola about engines, James about sales, and Robert, the shark fisherman, about service. Once again, nobody does service and friendliness like Coggin BMW.
