If you want proof that the car business runs entirely on Murphy’s Law, listen to this one.
We had a 2003 Cadillac DeVille sitting on the lot for three months. Ninety days of pure silence—zero test drives and maybe two phone calls total.
Then today happens.
Buyer #1 stops by, looks it over, says he wants it, and gives us the classic: “I’ll be back in just a few minutes.”
Literally ten minutes later, Buyer #2 pulls in, asks to look at that exact same DeVille, and buys it right on the spot. After three months of crickets, two people show up for the same ride within minutes.
Now, Buyer #1 never actually came back. No hard feelings at all—life happens! But we’ve had this exact scenario happen a handful of times over the years where the first person does come back, and they are completely furious that the car is gone because they expected us to hold it.
We genuinely understand the frustration, but look at it from our side of the desk: how are we supposed to know you’re the rare one who actually comes back, unlike the 90% of folks who tell us that and disappear forever?
A verbal “I’ll be right back” just can’t hold a vehicle on a car lot. We’re never trying to do anyone dirty or play games; we simply have to be fair to the person standing right in front of us ready to buy.
The moral of the story? If you find a vehicle you love, don't sleep on it. The universe has a funny way of making someone else want it the exact second you do.
