Remember when you could put your car in gear without starting it or pressing the break? Modern cars have safety features that prevent that now, including a neutral safety switch. The neutral safety switch is designed to keep the vehicle from starting unless it’s in either park or neutral. Modern cars also have a shift interlock solenoid that releases when the brake pedal is pressed, allowing the vehicle to shift into reverse. The neutral safety switch may be located inside the transmission, on the side of the transmission, or on the side of the steering column. Our techs can replace neutral safety switches in our shop! If you notice issues with your vehicle, be sure to give us a call at 515-573-8800 and check us out online at fdtrans.com!

With spring in full swing, vehicles are coming out of storage and getting spruced up for the driving season. One of the most common issues we see when vehicles come out of storage is mice nests and damage from mice! Mice love to nibble on wires, and this can take out alternators, wiper motors, and other electrical components of the vehicle. Engines and other parts of the car also make a safe, warm place for them to nest in the winter; this can also affect how the vehicle performs once it’s out of storage. Our techs have encountered some impressive mice nests built up in vehicles after the winter, sometimes with the mice still in them! Another issue we often encounter is wiring that has been nibbled on, which can take out wiper blade motors, alternators, and more! Mice may be cute, but they are also destructive and can delay your spring and summer driving season! When your vehicles come out of storage, be sure to give Fort Dodge Transmission a call at 515-573-8800 and let us blow the dust and mice off your vehicle! Check us out online at fdtrans.com
