When we talk to diesel owners, one of the first questions we ask is if the vehicle has a delete. Most vehicles today follow strict emissions standards and other rules to minimize pollution in our cities. Some diesel owners, however, want better performance, more power, more control, and fewer repairs on their vehicles, so they delete the emissions systems. That can make a difference in what we look at during diagnostics and what repairs we recommend going forward or whether we recommend a diesel shop for the repairs. Deleting can result in increased horsepower and better fuel economy; however, it can also void the warranty. It should also be noted that under federal law, it is illegal to delete a diesel truck, and could result in hefty fines. That said, there is a huge market for delete hardware, and we still see a lot of diesel trucks that have a delete on them. We need to know if the truck is tuned and/or deleted upfront, which will inform our diagnostic and repair process.
