Please do not take a dremmil or saw to your mounting hinge holes as it weakens them dramatically. I usually have to replace them to make sure hinges function correctly. Hinges need to be adjusted, pivoted, not cut up and lowered! Do your research and there are many good men who know their craft!

I had an email this morning, for a man wanting a quote for his hinges, and he did not like the quote, he told me he give me half of that, because any idiot could do what we do! Really?

Go rent you a building, by 3 or more high priced mills, lathes, air compressors, media blast cabinets and other tools, learn how to operate them and then talk to me!

Soon to be 63, and I know there are not many of us rebuilding hinges, but I stay backed up, I just do not understand why insulting and de-meaning anyone, would make you think, " I got him now, he has to do work for me", when pigs fly!

This was from a spare set, a customer sent me, to take parts off of to use on his hinges, they were even worse than his! Oil your hinges, do not let them get to this condition, your car and I will thank you.

A customer questioned my pricing on 1 door hinge for a 67 El Camino yesterday. It was the detent hinge, like the pictures below, with the pin broken off in the hinge. I tried to explain all the work needed to mill out old pin, machine a new roller(custom made), heat treat the roller, install an oil-lite bronze sleeve, press in new 5/6" pin(custom made) re-work or replace the detent lever and machine new bushings from oil-lite bronze and press in new case hardened pin. He said it should only cost 20-25 dollars, not the price i quoted, does that seem legit to anyone? Just need to vent

A repeat customer called today and needs a replacement set of rebuilt hinges, to replace the ones we did about 6 months ago, because his hood flew up. As I have said before, lubricate your hinges regularly but do not forget to also l**e your hood latch as well, on the pivot points. A well l**ed hood latch will catch and hold the striker better and you will hear it click!

1957 Lincoln hood hinge I disassembled today! Rivet is still round but lack of l**e made it a rectangle hole in the arm. Loads of work to do on this set, before they are functional again. Keep those hinges lubricated, please!

Make sure you know the difference between reproduction hinges(first 2 photos) than original(last 2 photos). We do not work on reproduction as the metal composition is very soft compared to OEM. You can tell difference in the tooling and rivet peen.

A very nice looking set of 1961 Impala that a customer sent in and wanted to save the finish. This will not be possible because the wear you see and the grooves will have to be welded, filled in and made to rotate even and smooth. Bare metal it will have to be, all because no one likes to use lubrication!

A man named Richard called me today to ask my opinion about his used hood hinges and why they stick up in the rear, and I told him to oil the rivets and see if that helps. He told me I was stupid and he was going to buy new hinges because hood hinges are not supposed to be lubricated, and I did not know what I was talking about. Why ask my opinion if you are going to be rude? Don’t be a Dick, just trying to help!

Wow, this is a rough set, because of no lubrication.
