The Amherst County Fair will return for four evenings of rides, activities, exhibits, contests, music, food and fun at the fairgrounds on Sweet Briar Drive in Amherst starting Sept. 10 and lasting through Sept. 13.

“It’s going to be the best one yet,” Amherst County Board of Supervisors member Claudia Tucker said. “They’ve gone above and beyond. Thank you for the volunteers and staff and everyone whose worked on it.”

The opening night of the fair will celebrate America’s 250th birthday with free entry for members of the military and a discounted admission rate of $2 for wearing red, white and blue, and free face painting from 6 to 8 p.m.
