If you ever wanted to see inside. You have to reserve through Crooked Creek Lake's page though.
Looking for a way to spend your Saturday? Try touring the inside of an 86-year-old dam the length of four football fields.
Join us tomorrow, Aug. 22, for Safety Day at Crooked Creek Lake and spend some quality time with park rangers, first responders, and an impressively-engineered infrastructure marvel.
You'll get to:
- Learn how Crooked Creek Lake helps reduce flood risk in the Pittsburgh region
- Talk with a park ranger about water safety
- Check out emergency service vehicles up close and meet some of the first responders who help keep the park and its visitors safe
- And, of course…tour the dam.
Tours begin at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Visitor Information Center - space is limited, so send a message to Crooked Creek Lake's page to reserve your spot!

A little Crooked Creek trivia: the dam’s original gate hoists dated back to its construction in 1938 and remained in service until 2023, when the district replaced them with four new hoists weighing 38,000 pounds each. They are very heavy.
