We know, it's HOT 🥵 but the swamp is still swamping.

Here are 5 great reasons to come visit the Okefenokee even though it's a billion degrees out.

1. Reptiles — reptiles love the heat, probably due to that whole cold-blooded thing they've got going on.
2. Birds — It's the last chance to see some visitors before they head south, and the perfect time to see year-round residents active!
3. Frogs — The tadpoles have made their transformation and a frog symphony fills the swamp every evening.
4. White Water Lily is in full bloom! Get out early and watch as the prairie goes from green to white with the sunrise.
5. Sunsets — The day cools off, the wildlife warms up, and the sky puts on a show. The swamp triple, we like to say.

Summer is one of the most active and unique times to check out the Okefenokee, just remember the sunscreen, sunglasses, and bugspray.

Ever wondered where the water in the Okefenokee comes from? 🤔

The Okefenokee is a primarily rain-fed ecosystem - there are no major rivers that feed into the swamp. Most of that water evaporates before it ever has the chance to flow out of the swamp, and yet the Okefenokee is still the headwaters of two major rivers: the Suwannee and the St Marys.

All filming activities were authorized by a Special Use Permit issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. No drone footage was filmed within the Okefenokee Wilderness.

➡️ Here’s how to visit the Okefenokee Swamp!

Day 1: Visit Okefenokee Swamp Park in Waycross to get an overview of the swamp ecosystem. Head down to Stephen C. Foster State Park for camping and epic night sky viewing

Day 2: rent a Jon boat at the State Park and go explore the history and ruins on Billy’s Island. In the afternoon, make the drive over to Folkston, enjoy a farm-to-table meal at The Farm at Okefenokee and snag a cabin at Okefenokee Pastimes Cabins and Campground

Day 3: Head into the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, climb the viewing tower, explore Chesser Homestead, and take a guided boat or kayak tour with Okefenokee Adventures

There’s SO MUCH to see in the Okefenokee, one trip will hardly scratch the surface 🐊
