We heard you like baby alligators 👀

There are a million fun facts to share about baby gators, but here are a few of our favorites ➡️

1. Gators have no s*x chromosomes - a baby alligator’s s*x is determined by the temperature of their nest. Warmer nest spots produce males, cooler spots produce females.

2. The bold yellow stripes act as camouflage when they are young, and fade as they mature. Almost everything wants to eat baby gators - including bigger gators.

3. They chirp from INSIDE their eggs! When they are about ready to hatch, this lets mom know it’s go time and she digs them out of the nest.

What’s spongy, fibrous, and has the same name as your friend’s uncle? 👀

Pete! Erm, we mean Peat.

The Okefenokee’s peat deposits are the largest in the United States and reach a depth of 15 feet in some places, which is extra wild considering it takes about 50 years to build a single inch of peat.

Peat makes the Okefenokee what it is, and is the reason for the name Land of the Trembling Earth.
