Kettering University Formula SAE

Kettering University Formula SAE We are a team of students at Kettering University who design, build, and race an open wheeled racecar in the Formula SAE Collegiate Design Series.

Kettering University (Formerly General Motors Institute) has a long and storied history in the automotive industry. The Kettering FSAE team strives to continue that legacy. Though much of the team's has been lost, small facts remain. The team was founded in the late 1980's. In 1998 and 1999, the team's solid axle, Kawasaki powered car won cost. In 2000, the car switched back to an independent rear

suspension. In the early 2000's, the team switched to the Honda F4 and F4i motors. In 2007, the team ran the Mahle 609cc 3 cyl engine. After failing endurance in 2007 and reevaluation of the Mahle sponsorship, a year was taken to regroup and redesign. Coming back in 2009 with a new car, a new engine (Honda CRF/TRX 450), a new goal, and a new 2 year design cycle, the team managed to post a score in all events at both FSAE West 2009 and FSAE 2010. Meetings both A and B sections are Monday evenings at 8pm in the SAE Garage or corner classroom in the basement of the Mott (Rm 1133).

We had a wonderful first track day of the summer term yesterday at the Mobility Research Center. We were focused on collecting data, performing both coast down and skidpad testing to do that. With the coast down tests, we were able to measure drag with and without our aero package. We also made vehicle dynamic setup changes to optimize skidpad performance. Overall, we had a very productive and successful track day.

After some difficulties in getting through tech inspection, and mechanical issues in tilt and noise, we were unable to arrive at brake tech in time to run. Nonetheless we'd like to thank our leads and seniors whose time has been invaluable over the last few years, as we begin to further test and refine the lightest, most capable car the team has seen in years:

Dean Kalebjian: 2025 Chief Engineer, 2024-2025 Powertrain Lead
Adam Jaycox: 2025 Team Lead
Braydin Jones: 2024 Team Lead, 2023-2024 Electronics Lead
Peyton Jones: 2023-2024 Chassis Lead
Jeff Ricken: 2025 Chassis Lead
Dan Hadden: 2025 Electronics Lead
Jack Stonis: 2024-2025 Suspension Lead
Skylar Menzies: 2025 Business Lead

We also want to thank all of our wonderful sponsors as well who made our season possible!

This past week, our team competed for the SAE Mid-Michigan Collegiate Cup. Although CMU Baja took home the victory, this gave us a great opportunity to practice our presenting skills. Thank you to the SAE Mid-Michigan Chapter as well as Bill Owen and Dan Nicholson for putting on a great event!
