Shane Westerfield to debut in Austin & O’Brien’s Northwest Hitter at 53rd Annual Nightfire Nationals

July 26th, 2024, Tacoma, Washington - Bucky Austin Racing is excited to announce that NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver, Shane Westerfield, will be taking over the reins of the Austin & O’Brien Northwest Hitter Nostalgia Funny Car. The Bardahl and Bucky’s Auto Service Centers sponsored team will be ready for action in Boise, Idaho for Firebird Raceway’s, 53rd annual Nightfire Nationals August 1-4th.

Westerfield brings a wealth of experience & success to the 9 time NHRA World Champion Austin & O’Brien team. Shane’s career accomplishments include Sixteen NHRA National Event wins, the 2017 NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car World Championship as well as fourteen wins and two World Championships in Blown Gas Flat-bottom Drag Boats.

“I’m super excited for this opportunity to drive for Bucky Austin & Mike O’Brien. As a kid, I watched Bucky and his nephew Pat race and I’ve always looked up to the entire Austin Family. As a driver it’s always exciting to be a part of a professional team and now, between this and my Top Alcohol Funny Car ride with Rick Jackson Motorsports, I’m racing with two of most professional teams in the country. It’s a great opportunity for my family and I’m looking very forward to it!”

In addition to driving in the NHRA Heritage Series, in which the Austin & O’Brien team has won six straight championships, Westerfield will be also competing in NHRA’s Modern Warriors Nitro Legends series.
