Today we remember and celebrate the life of John P. Small, Sr., known throughout our community simply as “Mr. Phil.” Today would have been his birthday.

In 1947, Mr. Phil founded Small & Small Oil Company with a simple philosophy: work hard, treat people right, and always leave things better than you found them.

He wasn’t just an oil distributor. He was a farmer, a Hereford cattleman, a steward of the land, and a man whose handshake meant something. He built a family business that has now served our community for nearly eight decades.

Today, as the third generation to lead Small & Small Oil Company, I’m reminded every day that we aren’t just delivering fuel, we’re carrying forward a legacy built on integrity, service, and faithfulness.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Mr. Phil.

Thank you for showing us what it means to build something worth passing on. Your legacy continues to fuel our family, our business, and the community you loved.

As we celebrate Independence Day, we're reminded that the freedoms we enjoy today were not given. They were earned through the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination of generations who believed in something greater than themselves.

America was built by hardworking men and women of strong character, steadfast values, and bold vision who laid the foundation for the greatest nation the world has ever known.

At Small & Small Oil Company, we are incredibly grateful to live, work, and serve in this country we proudly call home. The freedoms we enjoy each day are a blessing, and we never want to take them for granted.

As you gather with family and friends this Fourth of July, we hope your holiday is filled with laughter, gratitude, and lasting memories. Most importantly, let us never forget those who sacrificed so that we could live free.

A huge thank you to Whistle Stop Bakery for this incredibly sweet surprise! It was the perfect way to treat our team before the holiday weekend.

We're also grateful to Bryan & Tracie Mornings on 105.5 WYTM for hosting the contest, and a big shoutout to Christi Thompson for being the first caller and bringing home the win for all of us!

We truly love living and working in a community that supports one another. Our local businesses, our hometown radio station, and the people who make Lincoln County such a special place deserve all the appreciation.

Our office will be closed this Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day.
