Collaboration doesn’t just solve today’s technical challenges. It can help shape what comes next.

In this month’s NTEA News, NTEA Board Chairman Rick Albertini explores why collaboration is so important to innovation in the commercial vehicle industry — and how Commercial Vehicle Upfitting Summit creates opportunities to put it into practice.

Bringing OEM engineers, upfitters and industry experts together can lead to:

• Greater understanding of upcoming vehicle changes
• Faster solutions to technical and upfitting challenges
• Stronger industry relationships and partnerships
• New ideas that contribute to future products and innovations

A tow rating is only part of the equation.

Properly specifying a towing system requires understanding how the vehicle, trailer and individual towing components work together — and where the actual limits lie.

In this article, Steve Spata breaks down key considerations, including:
• Gross combination weight rating (GCWR)
• Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR)
• Towing capacity
• Hitch and towing component ratings
• Common misconceptions that can lead to improperly specified systems

How can work truck industry leaders turn innovation into a more predictable driver of growth?

Find out at NTEA’s Executive Leadership Summit, where industry leaders will explore the forces reshaping the market — and practical strategies for competing through change.

Featured Session Highlight: “Innovating to Win: How Work Truck Industry Leaders Can Beat the Odds in a Rapidly Changing Market,” presented by Ilya Trakhtenberg, Managing Director, L.E.K. Consulting, and Matt Wayne, Managing Director, L.E.K. Consulting.

Digital connectivity, AI growth, electrification, intensifying competition and an uncertain regulatory environment are changing customer expectations and raising the stakes for innovation. Yet even compelling ideas can struggle to become successful new products and services.

This session will explore why innovation often falls short in established businesses — and what top performers do differently. Drawing on L.E.K.’s proprietary research and frameworks from Trakhtenberg’s co-authored book, Predictable Winners, attendees will learn how to assess the forces reshaping the competitive landscape, systematically reduce innovation risk, accelerate conviction and improve return on innovation investment.

Real-world case studies from analogous industrial markets will help translate those concepts into a practical framework work truck executives can apply within their own organizations.

Turn innovation from a challenge into a competitive advantage.

It’s one of seven educational sessions designed to provide perspective on the issues shaping the commercial vehicle industry and help attendees prepare for what’s ahead.
