Today we are repairing a Honda HR215 and a Cub Cadet 33” walk behind for a nice gentleman with a landscaping company.

The Honda would not start due to a very dirty fuel system and carburetor. We removed the carburetor, took out the Jets and cleaned it really well reassembled it this morning and it starts right up.

The Cub Cadet had an issue where it was throwing the timing off where the two blades on the deck were colliding when they should be 90° offset. Apparently, whoever worked on it previously installed the wrong kind of belt. The timing belt has teeth that run perpendicular to the length of the belt and the belt they put on their look more like an automotive belt with teeth, running around the length of the belt. It is critical that the teeth lineup with the pulleys to keep them in line so that the blades stay in the proper orientation. We ordered the correct belt last night and we’ll have that installed this afternoon.

Mobile repair referral from a friend. 2009 Challenger 5.7 Hemi running sluggish and overheated previously. Code lead to misfire cylinder 5. Swapped out coils and misfire did not travel. Spark plugs recently replaced. Inspected injector and it had a lot of carbon deposits on it. Removed all fuel injectors to clean them. Found one o-ring dry rotted so I replaced it. Did not notice if it was from the same cylinder because I did not remove the o-rings until I got home.

Ready to reinstall and see if that fault is repaired. Need to figure out if there is an issue or not with overheating. The fan came on with AC but the coolant temp did not get high enough to trigger the fan IMO.

We will check that when we get back there tomorrow.

Successfully removed built up carbon deposits. On to bank 1 (right side).

Project Optimus keeps chugging along. Max and I picked up the heads, timing cover and oil pan from Dallas Motor Supply earlier today. I finished polishing all 24 valves to remove the carbon. 12 valves are lapped and installed in the right (passenger side) cylinder head. Those little valve keepers are a PITA. I still need to lap the valves and install them with the new seals on the left (driver's side) cylinder head.
New parts keep coming in. I am waiting on several items that will keep streaming in over the next several days. We are coming in under budget because we did not have to get the heads milled. .
We still have the following items that need to be done:
1) Finish lapping and installing valves on the second head.
2) Remove oil cooler.
3) Clean valley between the heads.
4) Clean top of block and pistons to prepare for cylinder heads.
5) Install heads with new gaskets and bolts torqued to spec.
6) Install lifters, rockers, cams, phasers & oil control valves.
7) Reinstall oil cooler with new seals.
😎 Install new timing set (chains, sprockets, guides & tensioners).
9) Install exhaust on both heads with new gaskets.
10) Attach power steering pump and compressor to brackets (had to remove to take off head)
11) Install timing cover and oil pan with new gaskets.
12) Install battery box, battery and connect terminals, fuse box and cooling lines.
13) Install lower and upper intake.
14) Install throttle body and air intake.
15) Fill and burp cooling system.
16) Fill with new oil & filter.
17) Pray.
Piece of cake. I should be done by noon tomorrow or rather within a week to ten days.

Today on Project Optimus I removed the valves and valve seals and dropped both heads off at City Motors to clean and resurface if needed. I also dropped off the timing cover and oil pan. Cost to clean the parts is $100 and resurfacing the heads if needed is $125 per head. I am cleaning the carbon off the valves using a combination of abrasive and chemical means. This is bank 1 side (passenger aide) pictured below. Once the heads are done I will reinstall the valves and guides.

Tomorrow I hope to finish the valves and prepare the cylinder block for the heads.
