Bison Motors runs a combustion-powered formula car team as well as an EV team. Unlike the EV team, which is composed of subsystems run by student volunteers, the CV team is run entirely by a senior-design team as their NDSU mechanical engineering capstone project. Currently, they are touching up the nosecone and adding components to the frame.

Subsystem Spotlight: Accumulator Senior Design! We have a hard-working group of mechanical engineering seniors designing and (currently) building our accumulator. The accumulator stores the batteries which power the car, thus they had to consider safety, FSAE EV rules, battery type and quantity, as well as placement in the car (the accumulator masses a lot, thus its placement heavily affects handling). Our accumulator is made of rows of lithium-ion batteries in a protective box.

Subsystem Spotlight: Powertrain! The EV powertrain team is in charge of designing and building the machines that translate power from the motor to the wheels. Currently they have the differential built and are redesigning the motor mounts.

Subsystem Spotlight: Powertrain! Our EV powertrain subsystem designs and fabricates the equipment to translate power from the motor to the wheels. At the moment they have a differential and are redesigning the motor mounts. Our car doesn't have a gearbox; changes in torque and speed are effectively accomplished by changing the revolutions per minute of the motor.

Subsystem Spotlight: Cockpit! Our EV cockpit team scours the rulebook to make sure our driver will pilot the car safely and effectively. Their current focus rests on the firewall and dashboard.

Subsystem Spotlight: Electrical! Our EV electrical team designs and prototypes the circuitry required to run every aspect of the car. At the moment, they are finalizing circuit designs, procuring materials, and fabricating.

Displayed are CAD renders of our EV car's pedal box and uprights. Our Brakes and Uprights team is hard at work laser cutting the parts to build these crucial components.
