Local rooting interest “Lil Rider” ran a valiant 2nd. We are extremely proud of the 1st rendition at the Horse Park and hope this race will continue to build momentum in the future. The race featured participants from all over the country and was the richest race in North Dakota history.

CLC Partners’ Foxy Cowgirl (pictured last year at Prairie Meadows) drew clear to a 1 ¼-length victory in Sunday’s $45,000 Cox Ranch North Dakota Horse Park Distaff Challenge in Fargo. The 5-year-old Flying Cowboy 123 mare was ridden by Scott Bethke for trainer Edward Hardy and clocked 400 yards in :20.123 for a 99 speed index.

Bred in Iowa by Christine Hovey, Foxy Cowgirl has now earned $229,915 with eight wins from 19 career starts. Last year the mare won both the Cox Ranch Prairie Meadows Distaff Challenge (G3) and Cox Ranch Canterbury Park Distaff Challenge (G3). As a 2-year-old, she won the Jim Bader Futurity (R) at Prairie Meadows.

Lil Rider, a North Dakota-bred mare by PYC Fun N Fancy running for breeder, owner and trainer Ronald Addicott, finished a game second and increased her lifetime earnings to $85,948. Julio Contreras’ homebred JC Fancy Eagle, an Oklahoma-bred filly by This Is An Eagle, took third.
