D O T CODES: When was the last time you checked them?
RV tire DOT codes on the sidewall indicate the tire’s size, load capacity, and the manufacturing date. The last 4 digits are the most critical, as they show when the tire was made. Of those last 4 digits: the first 2 shows the week number of the year, while the last 2 show the year.
Did you know RV tires usually “age out” before they “wear out”? Even if the tread looks deep, rubber degrades over time, especially if it’s been sitting in the sun or snow (very common for RVs). Our techs recommend replacing tires every 5–7 years, regardless of how many miles are on them.
Sometimes the code is on the inner wall of the tire depending on how it was mounted. If you need help locating it or aren’t sure how to how to read it, bring it by and we’ll be glad to show you!
