1956 Chevy Ridler contender and Great 8 winner we fabricated and built. Congratulations Gene! The build pictures couldn't be shown until the car was debuted. We did a lot of modifications to clean up the overall appearance of the car, and we also fabricated some things that were nostalgic to the owner. He had one when he was younger and one of the things he wanted was a roof scoop at the rear of the roof because he said that JC Whitney had one you could put on when he was young and he had one on his car. I came up with the idea of a third brake light that looked like a scoop. I fabricated it out of steel stock and we had it chromed to be reminiscent of the scoop he had as a young man. We also cut the leading edge off the hood and made it so the chrome trim stayed down with the grill when the hood is open, and fabricated a shroud for the front side of the engine compartment to fill the large area in front of the radiator known to those cars. We wanted it to look as if the hood was closed even when it was open. I fabbed up a Chevy "V" out of aluminum stock and polished it up and inset it into that panel. The whole engine compartment was enclosed to accent the engine and I made it so that the hood hinges hid into the inner fenders when closed. I made a surround panel for access to the hinges and to hide them. The frame started out as an older Roadster Shop chassis that I fabricated a center section for that the exhaust would run through and stiffen it up. A real eye change to the exterior of the car was the rear quarter panels. They were extended down and back to meet the bumper and make the body flow as if the bumper was part of the body. The same was done for the front of the fenders. A custom one piece grill was made for the car running from side to side and the turn signals were moved to the headlights. The underside of the car was smoothed and the metalwork was designed to make the car flow from top to bottom .

I just found out a car we built just made the Great 8 at Detroit! Congratulations Gene on your Detroit Autorama Great 8 award with a really custom 1956 Chevy that we designed, did the custom metalwork and paint, and built short of upholstery and final assembly.
