Francis “Sam” MacCormack
Fair Haven, VT
Francis A. MacCormack, “Sam” peacefully passed away at the Porter Medical Center, Middlebury VT on April 12, 2026. Born on June 11, 1934, in Troy, NY he was the son of Katherine McCormack Bishop. Sam lived with his mother and sister Anne in Benson and was educated in local schools in Benson and Fair Haven, VT.
Sam loved his family! His beloved wife Marcella “Babbie” MacCormack (Lambert), they were married for 41 years and their five children and grandchildren.
Sam is survived by Son’s Peter MacCormack, Austin, TX, Mark MacCormack, Burlington, VT and his daughters Sally Ryan (Dan Ryan), Chanhassen, MN, Beth MacCormack, Burlington, VT and Amy MacCormack, Burlington VT. His grandchildren who he adored, Sam Ryan, Austin, TX, Jack Ryan (Alessandra), Fort Wayne, IN and Ella MacCormack, Burlington, VT. His Sister-in-law Barbra Lambert, Colchester, VT and his brother-in-law Denis Lambert, Stowe, VT along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Sam joined the Marines and was proud to be a Marine. Sam was stationed at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Sam loved to work, leaving early in the morning and coming home late at night six to seven days a week. Sam wouldn’t think of missing work. In 1956, Sam started Sam’s Service Center in downtown Fair Haven, which operated a mechanics garage and gas station with brands of Citgo and BP. In the 1960’s, Sam was the first dealer in Vermont given the rights to sell Bombardier ski doo snowmobiles. This location was next to the beautiful Fair Haven Park in Vermont and became a local hangout for many of Sam’s customers and friends during the day. In the late 1970’s moved to the present location and Sam got into the home heating delivery fuel business and today, is known, as Sam’s U-Save Fuels and Propane which has provided warmth to many homeowners of both Vermont and New York over the years. After 60 years of work Sam retired in 2016 and passed the family business on to Mark & Alan. Sam had a very special relationship with Alan Parrott who he considered very much part of his family.
Sam loved his drives through the Vermont countryside, admiring the farms & farmers. He had a lot of fun, caring friends in his local communities, which he chatted about up until the end. Sam enjoyed traveling to visit his daughter Sally in MN, along with his trips to Hawaii, California, Florida, Texas, Arkansas (Razorback Football game) and additional trips with Babbie & friends. Sam took great pride in his homes, yards & flowers. We can’t forget about his unwavering love & commitment to his NY Yankees!
Sam always wanted to help where he could with his community. Sam was a generous man for people in need, and he would help thru his business, whether free fuel for their homes or fixing vehicles for free. Sam believed in his own way in God and was a supporter of the Catholic Church
The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at The Otter Creek Residence and Porter Hospital in Middlebury, VT, for the love and care they showed Sam over the past couple years of his life. We will be forever grateful. Additionally, Thank you to the Addison County Home Health & Hospice for their support to Sam over the past year. To the many friends and families for the love and kindness shown to Sam during his lifetime, we thank you.
