Finally got Brandon’s ‘68 Camaro in final prime. After finishing body work in 180 grit, 3 coats of CRE-391 black epoxy primer and finishing that in 240 grit, I put two coats of CRE-391 on some areas that needed some minor attention, and then put two more coats on the entire car. Later I put on a coat very inexpensive clear to give it more shine to see all the imperfections. It actually turned out better than some “budget” jobs I’ve seen. 🙂
Now it will sit for a few weeks while everything shrinks.

I am looking for a helper/“employee” who would like to work in my shop with me on a part-time or full-time basis. Your main job will be bodywork and sanding primer, and prepping for paint, which is always the majority of the process. It takes weeks to prepare a car for paint, and only a day or two for the painting process.
If you are interested in this trade yet untrained, I am more than happy to train and mentor. If you’re experienced, that’s fine too.
I do compensate well for your knowledge and abilities. I’m not paying someone to play on their phone and be on social media. If you’re lazy and don’t take pride in your work, then please don’t waste my time. I demand a lot from myself and take pride in my work and want to give my customers the best product I can put out. I do all of my work with integrity.

Making progress on the engine compartment. VanNatta Fabrication does a great job with their engine bay panels. I did some modification to the upper panels by shrinking the edge to make them have the same curve as the top of the fender. Made some side panels to match the new shape and also flow with the custom frame rails. I will have them bead rolled to finish them off.

Like everything in life, you need a good foundation to build on, and that includes a firewall. After cutting out the disaster of a
custom firewall, I made a straight and plumb foundation for the firewall by using a grid, test fit and finally welded in the firewall.
I also had to build a normal height trans tunnel. (yes I had the engine and trans mounted to ensure fitment)
And I had Southwest Mobile Blasting, LLC come do another fantastic job or getting it all clean for a great foundation to start from.
And I primered it all thereafter so prevent any flash rust.

Nothing gets under my skin more than having to redo someone else's work on a customer's car. This is worse than stealing; this is vandalism. Not only did my customer have to pay for this crap in the first place, he has to pay me to undo and redo, what should have been done right in thy first place.
1. The horrific metal work on the firewall. He just ground through the corners, used a jack hammer to get the metal to reach the firewall, and filled it with bondo.
2. Put a water-based sound deadener over bare metal and body filler.
3. Put water based sound deadener on smooth surfaces, that peeled off with air.
4. using filler to "smooth out" a firewall.
5 building a trans tunnel that goes up to the bottom of the dash and your arm pit.
6. putting filler over rust.
7. drilled out the holes from the torque-box to the floor, then cutting the floor in front of the torque-box and then not welding it back.
8. Replaced the quarters and did some world record setting cave-and-pave on both sides.
9. Worst of all, charging someone to do this.

It seems to some restoration companies, low price is more important than quality. Many vendors get their parts from the same manufacturer. Just because you got it from AMD doesn’t mean they made it or even inspected its quality. I know of 4 GM cars that were finished and have problems with the window gap being too tight. I have pictures as examples.
The first pics are of original Camaro doors. Then, the new black door and the red 69 Camaro convertible shows the difference between the rear quarter window openings. He can get the trim on the front of the glass because there is no room.

Thanks to John Fletcher for letting us work on the famous Doniphan, MO 1971 Mustang. We changed the carburetor, ignition parts, and radiator to get it running and set the timing. It got new brakes on all 4 corners. WE fixed the leaky gear shift lever seal on the trans. The dash got a new lens and now all the dash lights and tail lights work. The steering was extra sloppy, so it got a new manual gear box. Now it rides and drives like a new 1971 Mustang with manual steering and manual drum brakes.

Thanks to Keith Jones for letting us fix his baby. Keith was my neighbor growing up and finished the restoration of this 1969 Z-28 in January of 1990, right before I graduated high school. It rolled back into a poll at a gas station and messed up the quarter and bumper. He only wanted the metal work done, so that is what we did, and then put it in primer. He wants to restore the car again.
