Established in 2011, BTW provides professional instruction to eight southern Indiana counties.

Our program includes BMV-required permit paperwork, a convenient online course, one-on-one driving with State-certified instructors, and the final road test. Now that students are officially back to school, it's time to thank everyone on the BTW team for another amazing summer! Nearly 450 students completed their drives with us in just 10 weeks, thanks to the dedication and determination of our in-car instructors and the awesome scheduling (and frequent rescheduling) ability of our office staff! Congratulations to everyone that is now behind the wheel...and we look forward to working with those just getting started!

🚩💻 If you are considering doing a stand-alone online driver education course that is not associated with a full-service driving school, the reality is that these course providers CANNOT give you the paperwork you need to get a permit at age 15, only full-service driving schools can do that. And while these courses may seem cheaper, the reality is that it is often LESS expensive to do both the online course and the drive sessions through the same school (plus, all of your required paperwork is then available in one place.) Before you choose the cheapest coursework option out there, please take a realistic look at what convenience, consistency, and high quality customer service are really worth! ✅🚘

There is still a lot of confusion regarding the new license age eligibility law that went into effect on July 1, 2026. To sum it up: the ONLY regulation that has changed is that you may now get your license at age 16 IF AND ONLY IF you have held your permit for at least 180 days AND you complete a FULL driver education program (online course or classroom and 6 hours of driving.) You must also still turn in the completed 50-hour log to the BMV at license time along with the driving school paperwork. If you choose not to do driver's ed, you are not eligible for a license until age 16 and 270 days (and you still have to hold your permit for 180 days and turn in the 50-hour log.) You can review all Indiana BMV permit and license regulations on www.mybmv.in.gov. Hope this helps!

We are so saddened to share that Mike Guth, our Spencer County driver's ed instructor, passed away yesterday. Mike taught for 31 years at Heritage Hills High School and joined Behind The Wheel in 2020. He was a kind, caring teacher and coach who positively impacted thousands of students, yet always made time to be present for his loved ones. We miss you, Mike...thank you for your service and dedication. You will forever be a member of the BTW family.

🇺🇸🚘The BTW office will be closed Friday, July 3 for the Independence Day holiday and will reopen at 9 am (Central time) on Monday, July 6. All drives will continue as scheduled, but if you need to cancel an upcoming drive, please leave a message at 812-402-7058 (and remember that at least 24 hour cancelation is required to avoid a missed drive fee.) Stay safe and enjoy the long holiday weekend! 🎆

Our hearts go out to everyone in our service area impacted by last night's severe weather; the National Weather Service offers the following tips if you are caught in a tornado while driving:

The least desirable place to be during a tornado is in a motor vehicle. Cars, buses, and trucks are easily tossed by tornado winds.

DO NOT TRY TO OUTRUN A TORNADO IN YOUR CAR. If you see a tornado, stop your vehicle and get out. Do not get under your vehicle. Follow the directions for seeking shelter outdoors, which are:

Avoid areas with many trees.
Avoid vehicles.
Lie down flat in a gully, ditch, or low spot on the ground.
Protect your head with an object or with your arms.

Flooding

Fill your vehicle’s gas tank and make sure the emergency kit for your car is ready in case you need to evacuate during a flood. As a reminder, a vehicle is not a safe place during flooding. Seek higher ground. Moving water can and will float a vehicle.

Also, remind teen drivers to stay aware of potential severe weather and have a secure way of receiving alerts before starting out!

BTW students, you can find all the details of what is required to get your license--and how to receive your final paperwork--under the "Program Info" link in your online portal; please read it carefully and be sure you have everything you need BEFORE you go‼️

🤹‍♂️➡️ Between sports, activities, jobs, etc., teens today "juggle" a lot of commitments, which often leaves them little time to complete driver's ed requirements. While all of these things are important, it's also important to remember that driving is a skill that lasts a lifetime; and getting your license can actually help you better manage everything you're involved in. We encourage all of our students to take this program as seriously as your other commitments...the result will benefit you for many years to come! 🚗💨
