So this one was a snowball, originally my buddy had swapped out the fan hub because the wiring on the old one got chewed up and it never worked right. After installing the fan hub the truck wouldn't start. We did the basics, tested fuses, looked at power and grounds for the PCM everything looked ok, couldn't connect the scanner and had crazy ohm and power readings through the data connector. After digging for a bit we decided all he did was install a fan hub so we unplugged it and boom the truck started! Well simple enough we just got a bad hub, we will order another one. He goes to use the truck the next day and nothing. Cranks but won't start, hook the scanner back up and nothing. No communications start testing the computer powers and grounds and we have power coming in, nothing coming out. Also found a power in that was corroded in the connector so we started there and replaced the pin on the connector but the pin on the ecm was beyond repair, it was corroded off the board. Got crafty, opened the ecm, drilled a hole through the board, soldered a bare wire to a tracer wired it all back up and boom she ran! So we decided the best thing to do was order an ecm, just wanted to be sure that was the problem before we went and threw a 1400 dollar computer at it. When the Computer came in, we did a little wiring repair at the connector and replaced a few pins. Swapped the new computer in and she turned over but wouldn't fire. At this point we were both pretty frustrated and being it was a spare vehicle for him we just threw it on the back burner. As luck would have it things went really well for my buddy and he bought a beautiful house for him and his family not far from us! But now it's time to move the camper and some of his other stuff so the truck just became a priority! Dug I to it with a clear head and a new fan hub, started at square 1 with powers and didn't have anything going to the ECM 🤔 that's odd, we always had ignition power to the ecm.... Started checking fuses, popped the fuse panel and started probing wires from the back side and I find a set of chunky wires with power in, no power out... Flip the panel back over and sure enough, box style fuse with a hairline crack in it. Swapped out a trailer fuse in its place and tadaa. Sometimes you just have to step back and start from the beginning. When we were repairing the pins for the ecm connector we must have touched something and popped the fuse! Swapped in the new fan hub and she was ready to haul once again. Been on the road for a few weeks now and hauled a very sizable camper to its new home with zero issues!
