The Lost Coast 4x4's club was formed in Fortuna in the summer of 1992. About 6 members were active that summer and began recruiting new members. By the summer of 1993 we had about a dozen members. We organize a river bar cleanup at the Eel River annually, collecting tons of garbage. We participate in the Fortuna Rodeo Parade every year, and help in staging the trucks for the annual Truckers Parade
in Eureka. We also participate in the Adopt a Highway program. We do rescues, and recoveries of stranded or stuck vehicles when requested if we are available. Our club is family orientated, and promotes safe but fun four wheeling, and outings. We meet once a month, and have at least one official run or function a month. Members are encouraged to initiate impromptu runs or functions. Runs can vary from picnics, runs on local trails, or campouts. We have a group that do runs on major trails such as the Rubicon with the more modified machines. The vehicles in our club range from stock SUVs, Toyota's, Samurais to modified Jeeps, Trucks and other vehicles. Our objective is to assist where needed, and work to keep public lands open to the public. We participate in the "Tread Lightly" program and only drive where allowed. Our organization is non-profit in character, bringing together and promoting the interest of family 4-wheeling as well as enjoying and maintaining our country's natural resources. The club members are the ones who decide on the runs and functions at our monthly meetings. Memberships are annual, and run from June 1st to May 31st.
