1965 Mercedes styling meets brutal AMG performance. The 230SL hyperbuild is taking shape, and the fabrication required to mate this hand-fabricated chassis with an AMG 55 drivetrain is next level.

The latest push was all about packaging and tight clearances. Our Fabrication Specialist Erick has been fabricating and fitting the upper firewall, which includes a recess for the hood hinges. After shifting the engine's final resting place slightly to optimize what little space is available, Erick test-fitted parts of the exhaust and the necessary cooling equipment to ensure everything still fits. The puzzle pieces are slowly but surely coming together.

Did you know that the majority of our customers come to us from outside of our immediate region? As a full-service vintage restoration shop, we offer door-to-door pickup and delivery that relieves our customers of the hassle of having to arrange for transport, or to take time out of their own busy schedules to personally trailer their vehicles to us. Between our in-house transporter and partnerships with experienced outside transport providers, Vintage Underground can easily take care of moving your car from Point A to Point VU and back. And once in our shop, our project management software, Global Workshop, enables you to check in on the progress of your build from anywhere in the world. If you guessed a 1965 Lincoln Continental Convertible on our last post, you would be correct! This Continental came to us needing some electrical work before the summer heat hits.

These cars are famous for their luxury, but keeping that iconic automated top functioning perfectly takes some finesse. Our team tackled:

* Retractable Soft Top Electronics: Fully diagnosing and repairing the electronics to ensure smooth, push-button operation.
* Soft Top Restoration: Light upholstery work on the soft top to keep it looking sharp.
* 8-Way Power Seats: Rewiring and repairing the electrical seat tracks.

She’s officially ready for the summer season!

We've got another Ford family classic leaving the shop. This time it's a stunning 1966 Ford Mustang. We just finished a quick mechanical tune-up, and she’s running sharp and ready to hit the roads for the season.

We have one more Ford owned vehicle leaving the shop next. Any guesses?

Hint: "Presidential Luxury"

Who thinks they've got the year, make, & model?

Going home is something completely different than what we're known for. This ‘65 Ford F100 was local to us and was well known. The son of the original owner asked to restore it so they could enjoy it. The exterior was preserved to keep the character and the story of the truck. We did a full underside restoration and modifications to make the truck safer. It is now fully drivable in modern traffic all while maintaining its classic truck charm. We're always happy to know that a car we build is going to be used and enjoyed.

In the shop is a lovely little 1971 Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato. We are not going deep on this restoration, just small corrections and repairs to prepare it for this driving season.

Designed by Ercole Spada of Zagato, the Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato was a big departure from the curvy Alfas of the 1960s. While it shares its mechanical DNA with the 105-series Giulia, it is much rarer; with only about 1,117 of these 1300cc models hand-assembled by Zagato in Milan.

Leaving us is a wonderfully preserved 1982 Fiat X1/9. This is a later model that the owner has had for a long time here in the Pacific Northwest. It has low miles and has been very well maintained. We repainted it as it was originally silver, and silver paint from that era doesn't survive. We also put on new tires and brakes, and performed some basic resurrection work. Now it's back on the road and fully capable - if you've never had the opportunity to drive one of these, they are an absolute blast! This one is going to be used well and driven hard. This vehicle passed through many different hands here at Vintage Underground, so thank you to everyone who worked on this car.
