DODGE REALLY DID IT:
THE RAM SRT-10 CAME WITH THE 8.3L VIPER V10 AND A 6-SPEED MANUAL IN REGULAR-CAB FORM.
IT LOOKED LIKE A NORMAL WORK TRUCK… UNTIL YOU HEARD IT IDLE. HUGE HOOD BULGE, LOWERED SRT SUSPENSION, AND THOSE BIG FACTORY WHEELS THAT MADE EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE PARKING LOT LOOK SLOW.
THE BEST PART? IT WAS A FACTORY-BUILT “WHY NOT?” TRIM THAT ACTUALLY MADE IT TO DEALERS.

The 2000-2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder. Third-gen MR2. Mid-engine. Rear-wheel drive. Under 2,200 pounds soaking wet.
Toyota gave the working man a Ferrari layout for the price of a loaded Camry. 138hp doesn’t sound wild on paper — until you remember this thing weighed less than a Miata and had the engine behind the driver.
Now clean examples are pushing $15K-$20K at auction and climbing. The guys who called it “slow” in 2003 are the same ones searching Bring a Trailer at midnight in 2026.

America’s answer: the 2003-04 Terminator Cobra — supercharged 4.6L V8, ~390hp, and indestructible.
One was the forbidden JDM fruit. The other was the factory-blown muscle that could run 12s all day and drive home.

Japan gave us the Evo VIII — 271hp, AWD, rally-bred, launched like a missile.
America gave us the Neon SRT-4 — 230hp, front-wheel drive, and a reputation for embarrassing V8s at stoplights.
One was a $30k rally weapon. The other was a Neon with a turbo that could dust cars twice its price.
Same era. Same budget. Totally different philosophies.
