This week marks the end of an era. I've ran the chrome shop for the past 27 years. The last few years the state has done everything it could to regulate plating shops out of business. The claims they have made against the MFAS members were unfounded if not completely ridiculous. It's impossible to make money in the industry and the writing is on the wall. The APCD has given all shops 24 months to shut down. Im not waiting that long. I have decided to close the company before it cost me everything including my mental health. I want to thank all the regular customers I've met over the years. Most I consider friends more than clients. Also the man on my right is Jesus Rangel Gabia. Without his loyalty to me and the company we would have been closed years ago. I owe him more than I could ever pay. The one on my left is Guermo. Talented and invaluable to a plating shop. Thanks again and God bless all of you.

So for the last 10 years the plating industry has been under attack from the Air Pollution Board in California. There's is a lobby group in Sacramento that is bent on closing all the plating shops in California and they will not stop until we are all closed. During a zoom meeting with them and the APCD Thursday we were called murders of children. Gross polluters and money hungry environment killers. Our side presented the facts. Since 2010 the plating industry reduced emissions by 97.8%. The regulations are so strict in our industry that OSHA doesn't even visit shops anymore. The EPA came out with a report in 2019. Chrome plating facilities account for only 1% of the total chromium release into the atmosphere each year in the state. One of the largest contributors? Fireworks displays. Hear that Disneyland? They found that out when they put out air collectors around LA looking for chrome shops affecting the population but only picked up spikes after the fireworks show. In 2020 the total chromium released into the the atmosphere from All 268 plating shops in California was 2.8 pounds. THATS TOTAL NOT EACH. All of this evidence was presented to both sides. It fell on deaf ears and was blatantly ignored. I was told, and I quote " you are responsible for pounding children into the ground after they die". At the end of the meeting we were told that all decorative chrome shops in California, like mine, will be shut down in 24 months. The rest. Hard anodize, hard chrome and other specialty plating get 48. Here's a list of industries slated to leave California.

And many more. Including all the military and other aerospace industries.

Leave it to California to never be confused by the facts. Make no mistake this order comes straight from Newsomes office.

Just found out that one of my customers passed away. Bruce Meyers was the creator of the Meyers Manx. We chrome plate the bumpers on the new model they started making about 10 years ago or so. I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him many times over the years and came to admire his resilience and toughness even into his later years. I will miss him coming in and my thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Winnie. Thanks Bruce. It was an honor to know you.
