Classic Resto Garage

Classic Resto Garage Mobile Classic Ford and other classics restorations in San Diego. Specializing In Electrical And AC. This is where I can help.

For over 30 years, I've been professionally restoring Classic Ford Mustangs, Falcons and Mercury Cougars. I have done everything from complete restorations to restorative repairs. These days, not everyone has the time or money to restore their Classic Fords all at once. Most will do it in phases until the restoration is complete, but some may get frustrated or lose motivation in the process. It's

easier to budget your restoration into small projects, and complete each project. I can help you plan your restoration out into logical steps, and in some cases even drive it during the process. Your restoration should be fun, not stressful.

When you say your life sucks, it doesn’t. Look at what this man did, and what he overcame. He is the most succefull man in the world.

Proprietors of the Early Ford Store, Mike and Bill McGrath, literally found this 1932 Ford Roadster in a barn.

This Week in Gearhead History: On February 19th, 1928, Malcolm Campbell set a world land speed record of 206.96 mph in his Bluebird at Daytona Beach! The Bluebird was powered by a supercharged 23.9-liter Napier Lion W12 aircraft engine and this was the first time the record was set over 200 miles per hour. This record stood for two months until American Ray Keech reset it in the Triplex Special - named after its THREE 27-liter Liberty V12 engines. Campbell went on to become the first human to 250 and 300 mph, but those are stories for another time!

This may seem like a lot of work to replace a door hinge, but in the end it actually saves you a lot of time and headache. Most of the time I can rebuild the original door hinges on the car, like on this 1967 Ford Mustang. Not having to remove them off the car saves you from making difficult adjustments that can lead to damaging the paint. That way, you only have to make minor adjustment only on the door side of the hinge, because those bolts are easy to get too. You still have too take the door off though. The lower door hinge was worn out more than I liked, so I decided to replace it with a reproduction. Before I pull the hinges off, I make three measurement using a straight edge and level on the door mounting surface and bolt holes to the jambs. I don’t really care about the overall shape, as long as it bolts to the car. However, the new hinges mounting holes off too much, so could not be modified to work. I ended up rebuilding the old one anyways. I made some modifications to tighten it up more. I still benefited from my measurements since I had to take it off the car anyways. Also, taping all the painted edges off keeps you from chipping paint. Most are fairly easy for me, but this one took a little more time. A good tip is to alway rebuild you hinges, and realigning them before paint. Less work, and less chance for accidents.

1978 Ford Lariat truck under hood is coming along, but time consuming. All the wires and hoses were just ran years ago, so mechanic could get the engine running. I have to shorten, lengthen, and reroute everything. Half way done. Taking the hood off made things so much easier.
