NOW HIRING: Commando Hot Rods is excited to announce a vacancy for a new team-member/mechanic. We are looking for a motivated team-player that has a passion for vintage cars and producing the highest standards with a work ethic to match. Position comes with competitive pay (experience based), flexible schedule, tool availability as needed, and rapid industry growth with our business partners. The ideal candidate is familiar with electrical systems, performance parts and fuel injection, basic MIG or TIG welding, safety, carburetor systems, diagnosis, etc. This is for a part-time position with growth potential for full-time. We’re diving into a full build + preservation on this ’33 Coupe. A true Elwood hotrod icon from the 60s. After years in long term storage, it’s back in the shop. We’re preserving the original body and building a brand new chassis with a historically correct big block Chevy drivetrain.

🔧 Tip Tuesday! 🔧

When restoring cast iron parts, a clean, baked, and coated finish can make all the difference and it’s easier than you might think!

Here’s our simple 3-step process:
1️⃣ Clean & Strip: Use mineral spirits followed by a soak in oven cleaner.
2️⃣ Rust Removal: Soak for 24 hours in a rust converter. We like EvapoRust. Then clean thoroughly, blow dry with distilled water, and use dry heated air.
3️⃣ Coat & Bake: Apply your coating of choice. We use Glyptal epoxy for internal gear valleys and aviation-grade epoxy black for outer surfaces. Once coated, bake at 250°F for up to 2 hours.

✅ This is a low-cost way to ensure a rust-free, long-lasting restoration.

⚠️ Disclaimer: We don’t recommend using your kitchen oven due to fumes… but if you do, grab some flowers on your way home — you’ll thank us later. 🌹😅
