Ed Lednicky had two good reasons to form Fire Pump Specialty in 1991...
He had the tools and he had the talent. After several years of working in the fire apparatus industry, Ed saw that there was a need among Texas fire departments to have urgent repairs and other services performed on-site, rather than in a remote shop.
“If a department had a pump go out or some other breakdown, they would hav
e to send someone to drive the truck to a shop, wherever it was. Then that person would have to either sit with the truck until it was fixed or get a ride back to where they lived – and then repeat that process when the repairs were done,” said Lednicky. “And if it was a volunteer fire department, that person would have to take off from their regular, paying job to do all that.”
Taking stock of this situation, Ed concluded that he had the experience and knowledge of fire pumps and other equipment to get the job done, as well as the appreciation of the value that on-site service would provide fire departments. That’s all I had when I started. A truck and tools and know-how.”
Twenty years later, Ed still has a truck and tools and talent. He’s got a couple of trucks, actually, plus a mobile trailer for on-site pump testing, and a company shop for major repairs. The company also has a long list of satisfied customers representing every size and variety of fire department in the state, as well as long-term relationships with parts suppliers and manufacturers, giving him quick and easy access to any part that a repair job might require. Fire Pump Specialty has kept up with the times, as well, and can install the latest electronics, hardware and other fire apparatus systems and equipment.
