Things have been crazy to say the least. Here’s a Toyhauler door we repaired and reinforced after it broke while loading a UTV. For the record, the door says it’s rated for 3,000 lbs…

It’s always hard to tell how far you can actually see in the mountains. This View that Doesn’t Suck is somewhat outside of Kingston, Idaho on an overland trip with Smackout Adventures. I don’t remember what this peak was called, if it was called anything, but the view definitely didn’t suck.

Might not look like much, but we had a doozy of an electrical conundrum come to us in pieces. It had been previously partially disassembled and some things tested/replaced but the issue of no 12 volt throughout the coach persisted. The system itself was a 54 volt system, but RVs run on 12 volt. So basically power would come into the inverter/charger from shore power, the inverter charger would charge the battery, then would come out of the 54 volt battery and have to be converted back down to 12 volt to safely power the various 12 volt systems in the rv. On top of all that the actual amp hours of the battery itself wasn’t as high as you’d think for a system like that.

We did eventually condemn the battery itself after working with the manufacturer of the system who then quoted us $9500 to essentially rebuild the battery pack. We ended up removing the entirety of that overly complex system (inverter charger, wiring harnesses, battery pack, both converters, and control panels) and installed a more powerful 12 volt inverter charger, 628 amp hour battery pack, and simple control screen. Reprogrammed the solar controller to work with the new system, and viola, functioning 12 volt and a simplified system all with the ability of being controlled by your phone if needed or by the panel in the rv. It ended up costing the customer $3000 less than just the battery itself would have and instead of them waiting weeks and weeks for the back and forth shipping and time in the manufacturers shop they got it back in about two weeks. Plus the components are new and under warranty.

I also got to clean up some rats nest wiring (as best as I could, rv factory wiring is cringeworthy at best), so it was a win win win all the way around.

Happy Wednesday, and here’s another View that Doesn’t Suck. This is on a ridge line perched just above the town of Liberty, Washington looking at the Mt. Stuart Wilderness. This is still one of our favorite riding areas.

Reminder: even if you don’t have an issue it’s never a bad idea to clean your water heater. We did a full sanitize on a water system on a class A recently due to a strong sulphur smell in the hot water tank. I decided that even though mine is just fine and has no odors I’d go ahead and give it a good clean. You wouldn’t believe the amount of stuff that came out of the water heater. I flushed it for a good 20 minutes until the water was clean. You can get these wands at any RV place or Amazon, or we’d be happy to service your water system or any other appliance to keep it running in tip top shape and ready for adventure.

Today’s View that Doesn’t Suck is an Un-View. Slot canyons don’t count as views. They are experiences. I highly recommend visiting as many as possible. (Just please DO NOT enter slot canyons when there are storms in the area or even up in distant mountains. There had been flash floods here a couple days prior and we could see where people had to scramble to get out of the canyon to avoid harm.) This awesome one is Peek-a-Boo Slot Canyon outside of Kanab, Utah. We made a loop through part of Hog Canyon and ended up here.

Here’s another View that Doesn’t Suck Wednesday to get you through the rest of the week. Here we see a very crowded Horsefall Beach. As you can see, the weather is terrible, I do not recommend visiting on December 30th when this picture was taken. How many of you have cruised the beach here lawfully respecting the 25 MPH speed limit?

I have decided to revamp weekly Views that Don’t Suck. This spectacular area is Conconully, Washington. If you know, you know. If you don’t know, you need to. I cannot say enough about this spectacular area.

AC shrouds take quite the beating. Not only are they the tallest point on your roof, they are exposed to the sun, wind, rain, hail, and bugs. Plastic gets brittle over time. The solution? We can coat your AC shrouds with ApexArmor, increasing their lifespan and keeping them looking brand new.
