THESE 2016 19” VOLKSWAGEN WHEELS WERE DROPPED OFF TODAY FOR FOUR NEW ATTURO TIRES, FOR SUMMER USE ONLY.
My original quote was $80-100 to mount and balance four brand new tires and wheels, NOT DEMOUNTS OF OLD TIRES AND WHEELS.
I laid all four tires on the floor, started to let the air out when I encountered a seized valve core in one of the metal TPMS valves.
Then I came to a second core that wasn’t seized, but it had to be forced out.
Once all the tires were deflated I started popping the beads, and check this out folks.
THE FIRST POP OF THE VERY FIRST BEAD, THE SLIMIEST SNOTTY LIQUID, LIKE I’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. IT SMELLED LIKE P**S, YES, P**S. THERE WAS AT LEAST A HALF QUART. THERE WAS AN IMPROPER STRING PLUG IN THAT TIRE, AS YOU CAN SEE.
The slimy liquid was everywhere, dripping all all over the tire machine and the floor.
NOW I’M P**SED OFF, BECAUSE I WASN’T TOLD THE LIQUID WAS IN THE TIRE.
TIRE NUMBER TWO, DEMOUNTED WITH NO SURPRISES, BUT THE FLANGES HAD RESIDUAL RUBBER FROM THE OLD TIRES, NO PROBLEM.
TIRE NUMBER THREE, THE ONE WITH THE VALVE CORE THAT DIDN’T COME OUT EASILY. I WONDER WHY! CHECK IT OUT.
WHATEVER THAT BLUE CRAP WAS THAT WAS INJECTED THROUGH THE VALVE PARTIALLY SEIZED THE THREADS OF THE VALVE CORE.
Look closely at the image (blue slime) and notice how the blue slime just missed sealing the screw.
NOW I’M REALLY FURIOUS, AS TWO OF THE TIRES HAD FIX-A-FLAT TYPE PRODUCTS IN THEM.
At least the blue product wasn’t dripping all over the equipment. It pretty much stayed where you see it.
TIRE NUMBER FOUR. THIS ONE WAS THE WORST!
I POPPED THE BEAD AND THAT STICKY WHITE FIX-A-FLAT WENT EVERYWHERE.
THE TIRE HAD BEEN PATCHED, AND MAYBE DIDN’T HOLD, BECAUSE A FULL CAN, MAYBE TWO CANS OF THAT SH.T WAS INSIDE THE TIRE.
THAT CRAP IS SO POTENT IT WILL BURN YOUR EYEBALLS AND STINK UP THE ENTIRE SHOP.
The liquid damaged the TPMS valve, and caused the core to seize.
AFTER DEMOUNTING THE FOURTH TIRE, AND HAVING TO CLEAN UP ALL THE MESS, I DECIDED TO CALL THE CUSTOMER AND TELL HIM I WASN’T GOING TO GO FORWARD WITH THE INSTALLATION OF HIS NEW TIRES.
I GAVE HIM A CHOICE. I COULD EITHER REMOUNT THE OLD TIRES, OR, LEAVE THEM DEMOUNTED AND CHARGE HIM A TOTAL OF $15 FOR THE MESSES I HAD TO CLEAN UP, AND THE TIRE DISPOSAL FEE.
OVER THE PHONE, THE CUSTOMER DIDN’T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING I WAS TELLING HIM ABOUT THE CRAP IN THE TIRES, AND HE COULDN’T UNDERSTAND “WHY” THE TWO VALVES HAD TO BE REPLACED.
THAT WAS IT! I DIDN’T WANT TO PROCEED, AS THE WHEELS WERE “SUPPOSED” TO BE BRAND NEW, AND NOT MOUNTED ALREADY.
AS I SAID IN THE BEGINNING, I WOULD HAVE MOUNTED AND BALANCED FOUR “BRAND NEW” 19” TIRES AND WHEELS FOR $80-100.
TOWARD THE END OF THE DAY, THE CUSTOMER STOPPED BY TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON.
He never called back earlier to let me know if he wanted me to mount the old tires back up, so I just left them demounted, in hopes that he’d at least pay for the scrap tire disposal.
I DEFINITELY DIDN’T WANT TO PROCEED!
GUESS WHAT, HE WAS WILLING TO PURCHASE TWO METAL REPLACEMENT VALVES, AND PAY FOR THE WHEEL CLEANING, SO I ENDED UP DOING THE JOB.
One other thing the customer didn’t realize.
Back when he purchased his used Volkswagen, he had no idea that all the wheels had been sprayed, one of the biggest scams in the automotive industry.
