Deep inside Tennessee’s Savage Gulf, the trail drops into one of the most rugged and untouched gorges on the Cumberland Plateau. Horsepound Falls sits tucked in the heart of this wilderness — named for early settlers who used the gorge as a natural corral, with steep canyon walls forming a “pound” that kept livestock contained. Today it’s part of the Savage Gulf State Natural Area, protected for its cliffs, sandstone formations, rare plant life, and some of the most dramatic waterfalls in the region. A place where history, geology, and raw backcountry beauty all collide.
