Wow… where do I even begin?
1966 Ford Mustang
This one was different
This Mustang had been sitting for roughly 10 years inside a barn style garage. During that time, mice made themselves right at home. And when I say right at home, I mean a full blown mice mansion.
Over 10 nests were found throughout the vehicle, from the trunk all the way to the hood.
With an infestation like this, simply vacuuming everything out and wiping down the surfaces is not enough. There is a serious difference between making a vehicle look clean and actually making it safe to be inside.
The first step was chemically neutralizing the contamination before beginning the restoration process. From there, we began removing the infestation and debris by hand, piece by piece, before bringing in the vacuums, extraction equipment, brushes and cleaning tools.
For this Mustang, there was no shortcut.
The interior was completely disassembled. Seats, panels, carpet, padding and other components were removed so we could properly reach areas that would otherwise be impossible to clean.
The original carpet was carefully saved and restored. The deteriorated foam underneath was removed, the areas that needed it were replaced with new foam, and everything was thoroughly cleaned, disinfected and restored before being put back together.
Every component was treated individually and every area was addressed. This was a complete interior restoration, not simply a deep cleaning.
And there was one more reason I was not willing to cut any corners.
This is our customer’s grandmother’s Mustang.
There was absolutely no way I was going to hand this vehicle back knowing there could still be contamination hiding somewhere inside. It had to be done properly. The only way.
Once the interior was completed, we moved on to the exterior and engine bay, giving everything a thorough cleaning, decontamination and protection.
After sitting for roughly 10 years, this Mustang is finally clean, safe and ready for the next chapter.
There is still some mechanical and cosmetic work ahead before it is completely road ready, but getting it to this point was an absolute honor.
