Funny how someone felt that a man "working" to care for himself and his family was an embarrassment. He was actually to be commended for not being too prideful to take a job less "prestigious" than those in his previous career! Worked out pretty well for him in the end! 🎭 Actor Geoffrey Owens' went viral after someone posted a photo of him, shaming him for working a Trader Joe's and taking care of his family.
But Owens who currently has a roll on Wayan’s hit show, Poppa’s House.says he was only embarrassed for all of 15 minutes, cause days later Tyler Perry offered the 57-year-old actor, who once played Bill Cosby's son-in-law Elvin on "The Cosby Show," a gig on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
"I was only devastated for an hour or two," Owens told CNN in an interview Tuesday. "It was hurtful but very short lived. What has been sustained is how much love and support there is. Not just for me, but for working people."
Since his days on "The Cosby Show," Owens said he hasn't had a consistent acting role.
Owens said his income took a hit after reruns of "The Cosby Show" were pulled when star Bill Cosby was convicted. .
"I lost a lot of money from that, yes," Owens said. "I don't feel sorry for myself about that. But the fact is that was another contributing factor, along with everything else everyone has to deal with -- medical bills, car issues, kids in college, you name it."
