Hey everyone, Mary here. If any of you follow my husband, Justin, or are on any of the SCORR pages or local Facebook marketplace pages then you’ve seen that he has two race cars for sale.
One is a 2005 Cadillac Deville. He built it in a week…yes. One week, this past summer. It was a record for him I think. It ran primarily in limited, a couple BGM races, and he even led 6 laps with it in a modified race.
The other is his modified. I couldn’t tell you from Adam when he bought his first modified car. I think it was 2017? He sold it a couple years ago and built this modified from the ground up. He has put his heart, sweat, and let’s face it, probably literal bl00d into it. Aside from his family, it felt like it has been his pride and joy. And he should be proud to have built a race car that won a championship its first season out (2025) and is potentially going on to win its 2nd championship after the final race of the season.
But championships aren’t just won by a car. It’s the driver and the skill set they have too. This will be Justin’s 5th straight championship in modified. He’s put in the hard work, and has had a strong support system beside him the whole way, and it’s really paid off.
Many people have asked me personally today if he’s quitting or retiring. Frankly he may look old, but he’s not old enough to retire. He’s just ready to slow down a little bit.
In the last 6 years, on average, he’s raced around 100 races, give or take a couple here and there. In those 100-ish races, he’s only missed 1. Not a rained out race. He missed 1 actual race day. It was the 2nd day in Billings for their October race in 2024.
For those that don’t race, that’s a lot of time, money (especially on fuel this year), and more time. For 6 of the 7 seasons he’s ran double classes all season. This is the first year he’s ran primarily only 1 car then taken two just whenever he wanted to.
Seven seasons has meant: a lot of days and late nights in the shop, countless summit racing or speedway packages (I can’t say anything because I matched him in Amazon orders), one trip to the ER (those grinders will get you if you’re not careful), and a few arguments here and there.
But it’s also meant having a lot of fun. He brought me in and showed me his hobby, and while I’m still more of a horse girl than a car person, I’ve been so lucky to watch him the last 6 years. We’ve watched our babies literally grow up at the track. We have our own track family. And that’s something you don’t step away from entirely.
Shiloh is getting her own schedule now. And growing into her own person. Jethro will be there before we know it. Justin has decided to take a step back so he can relax a little, and we can try other things together as a family (except for camping - 60 days in a motorhome has me dreading the idea of camping for awhile).
He’ll still show up occasionally next year. And if someone buys his car, he’ll have another one built in a few years. Besides if he’s not spending time in the shop he’ll probably drive me crazy.
Thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors and supporters (family and friends alike) for helping Justin get this far over the last 6 years. There’s truly too many to name in this North Carolina long post. So after he finishes Billings race we will post an update and thank each one individually then.
