Rodeo has a thing for dynamos and tidy dynamo integration. This 58cm Flaanimal 6.0 is a perfect expression of that obsession. Up front a Son dynamo hub laced to a DT Swiss wheelset powers a Supernova E3 Pro dynamo headlight, all routed hidden and tidy through the inner workings of a Spork 4.0. The wiring then re-enters the fork and frame and exits out back to a matched Supernova dynamo taillight, which is mounted to the frame via a custom CNC machined aluminum mounting bracket that we’ve recently put into production. The net effect is tidy, near infinite lighting - as long as your legs keep pedaling and the bike keeps moving.

The build is based around the Desert Sand factory color that we offer on 6.0 steel. The owner chose the white decals which pop nicely without shouting. The rest of the build is high function and low fluff, running on the Apex 12 speed mechanical mullet, Praxis Alba aluminum cranks, and a Ritchey aluminum cockpit. As it turns out, everything minus the lights is analog and clicky-click!

By now many of you will have seen Jacob Alexander Jacob Alexander popping up in our feed from time to time if you hadn’t been following him already. Jacob is Rodeo’s first and only ever Science Ambassador, which is a title that we created together to celebrate the unique perspective that Jacob takes with his riding. When he strikes out on two wheels, he has an eye for not just gear, speed, and routes, but also flora, fauna, and the story of the places that he rides through. You’re far more likely to see Jacob stopping to highlight a snake than you are to hear him talking about watts or race results - not that he doesn’t like to head out to events from time to time. As a matter of fact, Jacob is heading to Mega Mid South soon, so keep an eye out for him and this bike if you’re there!

Speaking of the bike, this custom painted Flaanimal 6.0 was created with Jacob, and celebrates the markings of the Timber Rattlesnake, a favorite of Jacob. The build is a tried and true mix of AXS Mullet drivetrain, Rodeo 3.0 X (adventure) carbon wheels, ultra wide and flared Ritchey bars, and a fully recyclable Repente saddle.

A new episode of the Rodeo Podcast is live, and came back to host for one more jam, and to talk about the Colorado Diagonal ride with David and Stephen. The Diagonal was about crossing the state from the northeast corner to the southwest corner, on two wheels, self-supported, in about as diagonal a line as we could trace. For the riders it was an ambitious physical challenge, and it was also about seeing the state up-close and un edited.

This beautiful build respects no genres or clichés. It’s a Flaanimal, with flat bars. Jones bars no less. Does that make it a retro grouch build then? Nah. Wireless shifting. Carbon rims?! Madness. This isn’t a TBT and it isn’t a repost. Instead it’s a beautiful brand new Flaanimal 5.0 heading out the door to its new owner. There are one or two 5.0 frames in one or two sizes left at HQ, and they’re still being adopted, because they’re still as capable today as they were the day that they launched. Plus, they are still one of the most unique steel gravel frames on the market with their unique steel / carbon construction. This 5.0 is custom painted in a white / black / carbon layout that is more often seen on its Titanium cousin. It’s built up with Ekar 1x13 for that mechanical shifting goodness. Wheels are our hand built 3.0X, which is designed for all conditions aggressive riding and boasts incredibly high impact testing performance. The build is rounded out with tried and true Ritchey and Repente kit, and rolls on 2.1” Vittoria Pe**te tires.

No custom paint. No integrated routing. No electronic shifting. No carbon hoops. No fiber spokes. No window dressing. Isn’t it beautiful? 😍

We didn’t start out trying to make fancy bikes. People ask us to do fancy a lot, and we’re happy to do it, but what we care about most is function, and thus Flaanimal 6 steel built has all the function anyone really needs. Mechanical MICROSHIFT Sword groupset. Praxis Works Alba aluminum cranks. DT Swiss official wheels. Ritchey -- Official Classic polished aluminum components. Repente stainless rail saddle. TRP Cycling Components cable pull fix brakes. Standard routing (!). You could cross continents on this build, and it’s a third of the cost of some of the most exotic builds we do. Damn. We just love to see it. 🥲

This beautiful FX blue TD4.2 is one half of a pair of donkeys that we recently delivered to a father-son duo. The son’s bike was naked carbon with decals, and dad’s bike - well, the son may be faster but the dad may just win for Best Dressed. This blue is delicious!

Save the dates! We’re planning an East Coast Rodeo Roundup for Pennsylvania in 2027. Local, National, and galactic legend Dave Pryor of Unpaved, Monkey Knife Fight, and Grinduro fame is boots on the ground local support and intel, so you know it’ll be a blast! Save some days on either end just in case this morphs. There will be gravel, there will be bikepacking, and there will be community! We can’t wait to see you there. More info soon-ish!
