There’s something magical about a vintage chopper that has managed to escape the hands of time. It’s even more special when that bike has a rich, personal history deeply rooted in a specific era of American culture. At the recent Party at the Pen custom chopper show in Mansfield, Ohio, a truly remarkable piece of chopper history stole the spotlight: a 1939 Harley-Davidson Knucklehead EL survivor.

We caught up with Erie, the current caretaker of this incredible machine, to get the inside scoop on its origins, the build, and the veteran who brought it to life.
