📢 Important update for our customers — motor oil prices are rising fast, and we want to explain why.

Like many of you, we've been watching prices shift quickly over the past few weeks. We want to be upfront: this isn't business as usual, and it isn't something we control. Here's the full picture.

🔍 What's happening?

In March 2026, Iranian missile strikes severely damaged the Pearl GTL plant in Qatar — the world's largest gas-to-liquids facility and a cornerstone supplier of the premium Group III base oil used to make synthetic motor oil. The facility has been shut down for assessment and repairs are expected to take over a year. That single plant accounts for roughly 20% of the global Group III base oil supply — and there is no comparable replacement capacity available.

At the same time, shipping through key Persian Gulf export routes has been disrupted, driving freight and insurance costs to record highs.

📉 "But I saw crude oil prices drop on the news..."

We know — and we get why that's confusing. The issue isn't a lack of crude oil. It's a lack of refining capacity. Finished lubricants follow base oil availability, not just the price of a barrel. Even if the Strait of Hormuz fully reopens tomorrow, prices won't come down until the damaged plants are repaired.

💰 What this means for pricing

Our suppliers have been issuing immediate price increases — no 30-day notice, applied to orders already in transit. As a result, we've had to update pricing on several oil lines effective immediately: Cam 2, Starfire, Amalie, Wolf Head, Gulf, and GP. Expect the remaining lines to follow shortly.

Starting May 1st, you can also anticipate increases on DEF, antifreeze, washer solvent, hand cleaners, and nitrile/latex gloves.

🔢 What do those numbers on your motor oil actually mean?

The first number (ex: 5W) = cold-weather flow — lower means easier cold starts and faster oil circulation at startup.

The second number (30, 40, 50) = thickness at operating temp — higher means more protection under heat and heavy load.

Common grades:

0W-20 — newer Hondas, Toyotas, hybrids; ultra-thin for tight modern engines

5W-20 — Ford, Jeep, Chrysler trucks & SUVs

5W-30 — the most widely used grade in the US; covers most cars & trucks

5W-40 — turbocharged & European engines that run hotter

10W-40 — high mileage vehicles (75K+ miles); thicker film helps worn seals

20W-50 — classic cars, air-cooled & racing engines only

⚠️ Euro spec oil (like Mobil 1 ESP) is NOT the same as standard full synthetic — even when the grade looks identical. European vehicles require OEM-approved low-SAPS chemistry (BMW LL-04, VW 504/507, MB 229.51).

🛑 5 Signs It's Time to Replace Your Brake Pads

Don't wait until it's too late! Your brakes will tell you when they need attention. Here's what to watch for:

1. Squealing or screeching when you brake. That high-pitched noise is your wear indicator doing its job. It's a built-in metal tab designed to alert you before the pad is completely gone.

2. Grinding or growling sound
Metal on metal. Your pad is gone and now your caliper is eating your rotor. What was a $150 job just became a $400+ job. Stop driving and get it fixed immediately.

3. Vibration or pulsation in the pedal
Uneven pad wear or warped rotors. Either way, your stopping power is compromised.

4. Longer stopping distances
