🚧 Project Underway at the NYPD 34th Precinct in NYC
Another major fueling infrastructure upgrade is underway for the NYPD 34th Precinct, with our team completing a full underground fuel system replacement from demolition through startup.
The scope includes removing the existing 4,000-gallon gasoline and 4,000-gallon biodiesel USTs, demolition of the existing tank mat and dispenser island, excavation, rock removal, shoring, and construction of new tank foundations.
Once the site is prepared, we're installing:
• New 4,000-gallon and 1,000-gallon double-wall fiberglass USTs
• New double-wall product and remote-fill piping
• New spill containment and v***r recovery components
• New suction pump dispensers
• New Veeder-Root tank gauging and leak detection equipment
• New electrical conduit and wiring
• Re-installed fuel management system
• New tank mats, dispenser island, bollards, concrete, and asphalt restoration
From excavation and environmental infrastructure to the final startup and testing, this project highlights the full-service capabilities our team brings to complex municipal fueling projects throughout New York City.
Proud of the crews putting in the work and keeping this project moving safely and efficiently.

It may be the middle of summer, but this damage likely started during snow season. Repeated impacts from snowplows can take a serious toll on manway frames, fill ports, and surrounding concrete. It doesn't always happen in a single season—it's the years of repeated contact that eventually lead to failures like this.

One simple step can make a big difference:

đźź  Place traffic cones over your manhole covers and fill ports before the first snowfall. A visible marker helps plow operators avoid critical underground fueling components and can prevent unnecessary damage.

A few minutes of preparation before winter can save a lot of headaches when spring arrives.

At Island Pump & Tank, we don't just service fueling systems—we help our customers protect their fueling infrastructure year-round.

Have your sump manhole covers, spill buckets, or fill ports taken a beating over the years? Give us a call. Our team can inspect your equipment and recommend repairs before small issues become bigger ones.

🚧 Just because it's a flex line doesn't mean it should be bent like a pretzel.

This video below shows a dispenser sump where petroleum flex connectors have been subjected to excessive bending and stress.

Flex connectors are designed to accommodate movement—not compensate for poor installation practices. Exceeding the recommended bend radius can place unnecessary strain on fittings and reduce long-term reliability.

A few extra minutes during installation can prevent years of maintenance headaches.

Big things are happening in East Hanover, NJ as we get ready to open the new Costco fueling station. This project has been a true collaboration between Betts Environmental Services Corporation, C 3 Technologies, and Island Pump & Tank, LLC all working together to help bring this site to completion. From fueling infrastructure and electrical integration to equipment installation and final site coordination, this project showcases the value of teamwork, communication, and ex*****on across multiple divisions. We’re proud of the crews and partners involved in helping bring another high-profile fueling location to the finish line safely and efficiently. Looking forward to seeing this site officially open this week and serving customers soon.

Fuel Filters Shouldn’t Be Filling Your UDC… But It Happens.

We’ve been seeing an uptick in a preventable issue across fuel sites: fuel filters leaking directly into the under-dispenser containment (UDC).

At first glance, it may seem minor—but left unchecked, this can lead to:
• Product loss
• Environmental exposure risks
• Failed inspections
• Costly cleanup and downtime

What’s causing it?
Most of the time, it comes down to a few key factors:
• Improper installation or over-tightening
• Worn or damaged gaskets/O-rings
• Poor-quality or incompatible filters
• Missed preventative maintenance

The fix is simple—but requires discipline:

âś” Proper install procedures
âś” Routine inspection of UDCs and filters
âś” Scheduled filter replacements
âś” Trained technicians who know what to look for

Keeping your site running clean, compliant, and online.
Because small leaks don’t stay small for long.

🔧 Cracked entry boots = big problems.

If you own or operate a fuel facility, your containment sump entry boots could be failing right now and you wouldn't even know it.
When boots crack — groundwater gets IN and petroleum gets OUT. 🚨

Here's what the law requires:
âś… Monthly visual inspections
âś… Hydrotest every 3 years
âś… Test after every repair or new install

Leaks don’t usually start as major failures — they start small.
A worn hose. A loose fitting. A nozzle that’s “still working.”
But over time, those small issues turn into product loss, compliance exposure, safety risks, and unnecessary downtime.
At fueling sites, hoses, nozzles, and fittings are some of the most overlooked components — yet they’re often the first place problems show up.
Staying ahead of it comes down to routine inspection, knowing what to look for, and fixing issues before they escalate.
We put together a quick post on where leaks start, what they cost you, and how to address them early 👇

We see a lot in the field… but this one stood out. One of our techs opened a sump and found the sensor wrapped in a trash bag. Not broken. Not failed. Just… wrapped up and ignored. It’s the kind of thing that might seem like a quick fix to stop an alarm — but it actually creates a much bigger problem.
Water in your sumps, spill buckets, or UDCs isn’t something to hide from. It’s something to address. Those sensors are there for a reason. When they’re bypassed or disabled, you lose visibility into what’s really going on underground — and that’s where small issues can turn into expensive ones fast.

We’ve seen it lead to:
• Equipment damage
• Fuel contamination
• Compliance issues
• Environmental risk

The right move is always to fix the root cause — not mask the symptom.

Island Pump & Tank is proud to be supporting the evolution of New York’s public transit system through the installation of hydrogen fueling infrastructure at the Gun Hill Bus Depot in the Bronx.
As transit agencies move toward zero-emission fleets, infrastructure is where the transition becomes reality. This project includes the installation of high-pressure hydrogen storage systems, compression equipment, dispensing systems, safety controls, and the civil and electrical work required to support next-generation fueling operations.
Hydrogen fuel cell buses provide fast refueling, extended range, and zero tailpipe emissions — making them a strong solution for heavy-duty urban transit.
Projects like this demonstrate how petroleum construction expertise translates directly into alternative energy infrastructure. The future of fueling isn’t coming — it’s already being built.
Proud of our team for executing safely, efficiently, and with precision in one of the most complex urban environments in the country.
