❓ Frequently Asked Questions About Insurance Claims
Being in an accident is stressful enough, understanding your rights shouldn’t be.
Here are a few questions we hear often:
🚗 Do I have to use the body shop my insurance company recommends?
No. You always have the right to choose the repair shop you trust.
🤝 What is a DRP (Direct Repair Program)?
A DRP is simply an agreement between an insurance company and a repair shop. Shops can apply to participate if they choose to meet the insurer’s requirements.
🔧 Why do some shops choose not to participate in a DRP?
Some repair facilities prefer to follow manufacturer repair procedures and make repair decisions based on what’s best for each individual vehicle, rather than working within the guidelines of a specific insurance program.
💬 Will my insurance still pay if I choose my own shop?
Yes. Your insurance policy allows you to choose where your vehicle is repaired, and your vehicle can still be restored to pre-accident condition.
⚖️ Your right to choose:
Minnesota law protects your right to choose your repair facility. Insurance companies cannot require you to use a specific shop, and you should never feel pressured or steered into a decision that isn’t yours.
