Our Community Servants Series.
Tim Stevensā connection to the community goes back to at least to the 1740s when John Myatt, Timās great, great, great, great grandfather, came to what was then Johnston County. The old Stevens homeplace down Highway 50 had been in the family for more than 200 years until it was sold in recent years. It is not surprising that Tim grew up with a strong sense of community service. After all, the townās Service to Garner Award is named in honor of his father James R. Stevens, who was a town leader for decades. Show N Tell Ministries is Timās 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. Show N Tell has produced Christian plays in nine states, raised almost $100,000 in hurricane relief, placed wreaths on the Garner Veterans Memorial and erected a Gold Star Family Christmas tree for several years, produced a Salute to Troops in May most years, and written and produced six plays about Garnerās history. (All won N.C. Society of Historiansā awards.) A Christmas video produced by Show N Tell won a national Peopleās Choice Telly Award last year. Show N Tell also played a big role in starting Broadway Voices, a concert series that brought the biggest Broadway stars to town for concerts at the Garner Performing Arts Center. Show N Tellās most challenging project ever is bringing The Wall That Heal to Garnerās Lake Benson Park on March 31 through April 2. The Wall That Heals is a ¾-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. A candlelight service will be Friday, April 1, and the U.S. Marine 2D Aircraft Wing Band is expected to lead a Welcome Home event for all Vietnam veterans on Saturday, April 2. The stories of more than 100 community Vietnam veterans are at garnerwall.com. The Wall will be open 24 hours a day and there is no admission fee. In conjunction with The Wall coming, Show N Tell and Crazy Duck Productions have produced a documentary on The Wall That Heals that will be shown at the N.C. Museum of History and on local television.
