The problem is who can you trust to repair the car properly without costing to much or getting bullied into repairs you may not need. The dealerships and chain repair shops have a lot of overhead that the consumer has to pay for, that increases your price. Southside Automotive is smaller with a lot less overhead and w

With cold temperatures here and a freeze expected over the Christmas holidays, you will go out to a low tire warning but don’t be alarmed. Atmospheric air looses density in the cold temperatures, if your car just gives you a low tire icon, do a quick check to see that you don’t have a completely flat tire, if your car gives you actual tire pressure if they are 25 or above drive as you normally would and get the tires properly inflated as soon as you can. All car repair shops have shop air and in my professional opinion you should never pay for Nitrogen it provides no significant difference over atmospheric air. Also do not go by the recommended tire pressure on your vehicle, go by the recommended pressure on the tire itself, all modern passenger car tires are either 44 or 51 pound maximum pressure at the maximum the only negative is a stiffer ride quality. Car manufacturers want a lower pressure to create a smooth ride, and if you are on your 2 or 3 set of tires on that vehicle, how does that sticker know what tires is on your vehicle, it doesn’t, and 32 is too low for any tire today. I would say 38 on a 44 pound tire and 45 on a 51 would be a good place to start, each vehicle is unique and you can add or subtract until you get the ride quality and performance your require for you and your vehicle.

The supply chain issues in the auto repair industry seems to be leveling off, tire inventory has been good as of late. The cost of buying a new vehicle is still very high so maintaining and keeping an older vehicle is probably your best option for at least the next 6 months. So with that being said you should maintain your current vehicle to be able to keep it longer, the old pay me now or pay me later holds a lot of truth.

The supply chain disruption is affecting every industry in the US, and it will seriously affect your vehicle in months to come. The best advice I can give right now is to be very proactive about your vehicle. I look at tire inventory everyday and it is at an alarming low level right now, and I see a time very soon that you may have to park your vehicle because you cannot find a tire. Certain types of oil are in short supply, and parts for older vehicle are really hard to find. Bottom line plan ahead, don't wait to the last minute, if you plan a holiday trip get your vehicle checked way ahead of time.

These are trying and difficult times and I truly understand people doing what they can to survive. I am seeing a lot of people offering there services for whatever and they maybe qualified but there is a huge difference between a guy with a chainsaw and a licensed, insured and bonded tree removal company. I also understand when money is tight you have to make decisions, am I more expensive than a guy that fixes cars in his backyard, absolutely I have way more overhead and insurance and the government regulations cost money, but if I damage your car or there is a warranty problem I am there to make things right. I cannot tell you how many horror stories of the shade tree mechanics I have heard over the years , yes he was cheaper but when there was a problem he was nowhere to be found. The cheap roof is great till you have a leak , so when you are looking at having something done understand why the reputable company is more expensive, believe me it’s not because we want to charge more it is because we have to charge more to cover the expense of doing business according to all the regulations to protect the customer. I am friends with so many small business owners, and non of us are ever going to be rich, we are all doing our best to support our families, but I guarantee you that we will all go out of our way to do the best possible job at the best possible price for you.

These are definitely strange and trying times as our nation goes through this pandemic , but I have no plans of shutting down my business. I plan on staying open to provide car repair as I have done for the last 33 years. If you are in a high risk category , or you are just apprehensive about traveling outside your house call me and we can work out the details for me picking up your car then delivering it back to you, for critical car repairs, I would ask if it is just for routine maintenance please let this problem pass and then schedule an appointment as usual. I feel I provide security and piece of mind for my customers and in these trying times we are in I feel that is very important. After 33 years in business and working on my 3rd generation of drivers, I hug more of my customers than shake there hands, you are my friends and I will do whatever I can to keep you safe. We are all in this together, but together we will all get through this , I love and appreciate you.

Today 32 years ago Southside Automotive opened its doors. Through hurricanes ; scorching heat and the worst economy I will experience in my lifetime we have endured. I am very proud to have lasted this long, but much prouder of being able to provide the residents of Dunnellon with a basic need, fair and honest car repair. The greatest honor I have been given is when a widow will tell me their spouse advised them to only come to my shop, and that has happened more once. I have started with parents and I am now on 3rd and 4th generations, I am not bragging just extremely proud. I have many customers but I have made many more friends and as I love what I do I have no plans of stopping anytime soon. So thank you to the people I have helped over the years, I hope I can continue to earn your business for many years to come.
