"Can I leave my community and drive on the street?" 🛣️
It is the question we get most from the Osceola side of the county line, and the answer depends on the street, not on the cart. Florida starts from one idea: a cart may only be driven on a county road the county has designated, or a city street the city has designated. Driving slowly is not enough, and neither is living two blocks away.
What almost nobody knows is that Osceola has a written procedure for getting a community approved, and it starts restrictive. It takes a homeowner applicant from a self contained community, a petition signed by at least 51% of residents or HOA members with one signature per household, and a county traffic study that reviews a minimum of three years of crash data plus a spot speed study. The applicant pays for it, up to a maximum of $6,500, and it is non refundable whatever the outcome, though you get an estimate first and can cancel at no charge at that point.
The result is not a simple yes or no. It specifies whether night driving is allowed, which roads are in, which are out, and where the signs go.
