25 years later… and somehow, the weight of that day still feels just as heavy.
For those of us who remember that morning, we remember where we were. We remember the confusion, the fear, the phone calls, the television screens that we couldn't look away from. We remember watching our country change in a matter of hours.
We remember the 2,977 innocent lives that were taken.
We remember the countless first responders, military members, volunteers, and ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage.
Today, we remember the lives.
We remember the heroes.
We remember the families.
We remember the courage.
And we remember how, for a brief moment, our country came together and strangers became neighbors. People helped people simply because they could. Flags appeared everywhere. We stood together. We cried together. We prayed together.
25 years may have passed, but for so many, the pain and memories of that day never truly leave.
Forever in our hearts. Forever remembered.
