The Houston County School District is excited to announce that Tabitha Bates has been hired as our new Director of PreK–5.
Ms. Bates brings 25 years of classroom experience to this role, having started her teaching career in Houston County and now returning to serve in a leadership capacity.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Bates has focused on helping children develop a love of learning by first helping them believe in themselves. Her dedication to students and education has earned her national recognition, including the 2026 Extraordinary Educator Award, where she was one of only 22 teachers honored across the United States. She was also inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society at Austin Peay State University in 2026.
Outside of education, Mrs. Bates enjoys church, serving others, family, and traveling. She and her husband have been married for 25 years, and they are proud parents of their son, Montana, who will graduate from Murray State University next year with his RN degree before continuing on to PA school.
