We are SO excited to introduce a brand-new Diboll Day tradition:

🌽 THE CORNBREAD WHISTLE 5K & FUN RUN 🌽

📍 Starts & finishes at the Diboll Civic Center at 8 for the Fun Run and 8:30 for the 5K
💰 $30 registration for 5K and $20 for Fun Run

The full race route will be released soon, but this isn’t just another 5K. We wanted to create something that celebrates a piece of history that is uniquely DIBOLL.

So… what exactly is the Cornbread Whistle?

Diboll was built around the timber industry, and the sawmill whistle was once an important part of everyday life in our little company town. According to The History Center’s collection, the whistle became so woven into Diboll life that families used its 11:15 a.m. blast as their signal that it was time to get the cornbread in the oven and prepare the noon meal before the mill workers came home. 🌽

In fact, the tradition became so iconic that the Diboll Historical Society named its 1986 oral history of our timber-company town The Cornbread Whistle.

More than a century later, that 11:15 whistle is STILL part of the soundtrack of Diboll. It represents our timber roots, hardworking families and the traditions passed from one generation to the next.

And now… we’re running with it. 😉
