Jimmy Strauss found his love for restoration at only 13 years old, when he restored his very first vehicle - a 1931 Deluxe 5 Window Coupe Model A Ford. Jimmy then became interested in hot rod and high performance vehicles; and approximately 15 years ago, he found his true passion - WWII vehicle restoration. With an intimate knowledge of WWII and vehicle history and a wide network of resources, Jimmy and his team aim to not only meet your needs, but also exceed your expectations of what a dependable restoration service can be.

We’ve shared few teaser photos of this project in progress before, but after a two year restoration, our team is excited to have this 1942 Ford GPW restored to her production line glory!

Owner Daniel Gad found this beauty under the crawl space of a home, with the steering wheel cut and a homemade windshield and hood added in order to accommodate the tight “storage space.” Check out those before photos to get a better idea of where she came from!

We included the original data plates inside the glove box for a memento of this project’s origin.

This 1952 Willys M38 civilian jeep was a two-year long project for our team, but we’re proud to have this one completed, and preserved for future generations!

Owner, Thomas Todd, requested a 12v conversion on this project, and a gloss Wimbledon White paint job! We think the final project came together nicely!

We were surprised to learn we were named the winner of Best Of: Auto Restoration Service 2026 for El Dorado County, but we are honored to be celebrated and recognized by our community!

Our team was pleased to host the MVCC club convoy open house for the second time this week; providing an opportunity to share our work and interact with the community's history enthusiasts.

We are grateful for our partnership with the MVCC and their dedication to preserving military vehicles, and were honored to have Mr. Art Archer in attendance this year for the event!

While we’re Olive Drab experts, a gloss paint job is a welcome challenge from time to time!

This 1953 Willys CJ3A got a full body restoration and Harvest Tan factory paint job with our team, and owner Joey, will complete the rest of the project at home!

This paint job was a time intensive project for our team - with an estimated 120 hours in the paint alone - but we think the final result was well worth the time! ✨

This 1941 Dodge WC 15 1/2 ton Command Car has a unique story, a long history with our team, AND our first complete Dodge restoration at Jimmy Strauss Jeeps!

Jimmy brought this project home in 2014 with plans to restore it and keep in his personal collection - in between projects, and late at night after the shop had closed, Jimmy would put a few hours into it here and there, bringing it back to life.

A few years ago a client showed interest in the project, and approached Jimmy about buying it. Jimmy sold the project on to the new buyer, and went to work on its completion full time. The drivetrain was fully restored, the body was restored and all metalwork returned to original condition, the floors were stamped in sections with our own dies and welded together, canvas was restored by Farrel Fox, and all graphics were restored to how they were when the vehicle was found, including WWII original numbers - a build card was obtained from Chrysler to confirm all options on the vehicle are correct.

It’s been a long project, but our team is proud to have this one completed, and off to its new home in Idaho!

While our team is talented and experienced in preserving history - Jimmy is a man of many talents - all of which highlight his penchant for perfectionism!

Jimmy has been building 1:700 scale models since he was a young boy, and has completed over 1000 throughout his lifetime. His latest project, this 1:700 scale 1944-45 USS Nevada project is another example of the attention to detail and perfectionism that Jimmy prides himself in!

A little before and after of our latest project: 1943 Ford with 12v conversion

This vehicle boasts a unique history! It was used in the circus - its doors cut the accommodate the large size of the clown shoes, now restored back to original condition in honor and tribute to owner Patrick Beaham’s grandfather.

We see a whole lot for Ford and Willys jobs, but we aren’t a one trick pony around here - our team completed this 1941 Dodge WC flathead six-cylinder engine rebuild last week, and sent it home with owner Mark Aurdahl on Wednesday!

All engines are test run for a minimum of 10 hours before shipping, and this one checked all the boxes, so it’s on its way home!

Looking forward to seeing the completed project soon, Mark!
