When Danielle North’s son asked for somewhere to play, she saw an opportunity to create something Detroit families needed. That idea became Kidz Kingdom, a place where parents could feel confident leaving their children and kids could feel welcome.

Now, Kidz Kingdom - Child Care & Party Center has a bigger home at 20035 Plymouth Rd in District 7. After a decade in a rented storefront, Danielle is celebrating the expansion into her own 11,000-square-foot building, with dedicated spaces for childcare, summer camp and birthday parties.

An $85,000 Motor City Match Round 23 grant helped bring the new childcare space to completion. We were proud to celebrate this milestone with Danielle and her community at our 212th neighborhood ribbon cutting.

Detroit had a busy September

New restaurants are coming to neighborhoods, longtime businesses are getting support, more housing is taking shape and millions of dollars are being invested in Detroit communities.

🔶 A new leader was tapped to help guide Detroit’s business and workforce development efforts.
🔶 Three new food and drink spots are headed to Detroit neighborhoods.
🔶 Fifth Third committed $20 million toward housing and small businesses in two Detroit neighborhoods.
🔶 Grounded opened its new EV manufacturing facility on Fort Street, bringing more production and jobs to Detroit.
🔶 New homes debuted at The Canopy in Core City, with more development on the way.
🔶 A new $1.24 million park will give Detroiters greater access to the Rouge River.
🔶 New apartments are emerging near Michigan Central as Bagley Vision brings more housing and activity to Corktown.
🔶 Detroit’s longtime businesses remain part of the city’s growth story through the Detroit Legacy Business Project.

Heal Well Detroit grew from years of listening.

Owner Destiny Countryman spent years caring for family members and delivering meals to seniors throughout Detroit. Those visits often became opportunities to sit, talk and hear what people needed. She carried those conversations with her as she created a place where Brightmoor seniors could spend their days surrounded by care and community.

Last week, we celebrated the grand opening of Heal Well Detroit and Motor City Match’s 211th neighborhood ribbon cutting. Inside the nearly 4,000-square-foot center, clients can enjoy coffee and conversation, exercise, use computers, receive dementia support and get help with daily needs. A $55,000 Motor City Match Round 30 grant supported the build-out and furnishings.
